The general concensus on JP6's with painted necks (found on most BFR's), is that they are pretty smooth and fast.....more so than one would think. Even still, many ppl feel spoiled though, after playing the maple neck with it's oil/wax treatment (found on most regular JP6's), that they find it hard to go with anything else with that model. But, in truth, the painted neck on JP6's is not tacky or sticky, and plenty smooth and fairly fast. As far as the JPX though, I'd advise to think extra hard about it and make sure to try it out numerous times in comparison to other JP6 models. The reason for this, is because when the JPX came out and many bought it, within months (or less) of purchasing it, they were turning around and putting it up for sale....which is actually something I predicted would occur. What happen you see, is that the JPX was the first JP6 model relased with a partly chambered body, an idea that came after JP played the EBMM 25th Anniversay model with this same type of chambering and wanted a JP6 with it. Well, many ppl that already own a JP6 (or had owned one in the past) were some of the ones that bought the JPX when it came out. Well, just as I thought, many just weren't down with the general tone of the JPX with it's chambered body. For the general music that JP plays, a solid body seems to fit the bill a bit more IMO. Don't get me wrong though, a few bought it and still love it to this day. It doesn't sound bad, and is great for many applications. Although, many after playing the JPX become unhappy and go back to the regular solid body of the normal JP6's. Personally, if someone like yourself is just looking to pick up one of these JP6 models, I'd recommend the regular JP6 or even the JP6 BFR models.....but not the JPX. If you still think the JPX would fit you best, as I said before,...be sure to demo it, and then demo it again, and again, to abandon any doubts you may have in purchasing it, while comparing to other JP6 models.
