Hey, I have a Splawn 4x12, a DAR FBM100H on order and I would like to get some new speakers. I have decided on the Electro Voice EVM12L, what I can't decide is which to go with it. I was thinking either a pair of Greenbacks or some Alnico Golds. I'm looking for something that cuts but isn't harsh, I just want something to add to the top of the EVM12s. Something to make the leads cut better.. I've been using this for reference:

Whats everyone think? thanks

i'd most likely wanna go with whatever Mesa used to pair with the EV's, and would prefer they all be 8 ohm speakers.

Greenbacks and Golds are great speakers, but by far not my first choice for one of the most badass metal amps around.

Thanks, why the 8 ohms? All of my previous cabs have been 16 so this would be nice to know

altho I should mention I'm not the most metal of dudes. I know that may sound weird considering the equipment I own

I don't really know how to explain what I like, I guess maybe a warmer metal tone with a low amount of gain. maybe similar to what Metallica had on the Load albums??? different of course but that's the best example I can come up with

Does that make sense? lol

that fire breathing mutha DAR amp will spit the cones out of greenbacks and alnico golds. why not just grab a mesa recto cab with V30's and go with it? save yourself some dough and frustration?

bump :)

I know, I know, I'm like the only one on earth who doesn't like V30's

the 8 ohm thing is that i just like them a little more, seem to have more lowend than thier 16 ohm counter parts. Mesa uses 8 ohm, and people seem to like thier V30's more than other brands, and i think the 8 ohm thing is part of that.

I have a DAR Forza, and haven't comepletely settled on what speakers are best with it. I know i like it with a mix of Eminence Swamp Thangs and Governors.

If you don't like V30's, maybe CL80's, k100's, or Mesa Black Shadows.

Maybe try some Eminence with the EV's, Governors, Swamp Thangs, Texas Heats, etc.?

Isn't DAR using K100's and 75's?

Cool, thanks. Is the Forza awesome?!

I'm mainly going off of what I heard in that video. I thought the EVM's sounded the best on rhythm and the greenbacks(or the golds) sounded best on lead. Is that stupid?

My main problem is deiciding(yes) between the greenbacks or golds to go with the EVM's.

I really like the Forza, and plan on keeping it around. Only thing i'd like to see deferent on the Forza is in the tone controls, and think some of that is deferent on the one you're getting.

If you're bound and determined to go with Greenies or Golds, go for it. But again i'd rather see you go with something deferent.

If you're really digging the Greenback type sounds, then i'd rather see you go with a higher wattage handling speaker, like a 65 watt Scumback or Weber. Going with these you'll still have the great old school sound, have higher power handling and closer match to the EV's for Decibles.

DAR is claiming 100 watts, but 100 watts Class A is serious business.

Awesome, thanks. I already have a pair of the Golds so I think I will give those a try and just add some EV's. I looked at some of the Scumbacks, will give those a try if I have any problems, thanks again.
