BKP Painkillers are in the lead...
SD Distortion, SD BlackWinters also in contention...

... any others?

I'm also a fan of the SD Distortion but to be honest haven't tried any BKPs

I have a painkiller in a Les Paul Custom, it sounds great but I also have a Suhr Aldrich in another Les Paul Custom that I like even better. I also really liked BK cold sweats I had in different Les Paul as well.

Hey Matt...
Do you find the Aldrich set to have enough kick? I had a set in a LP R7 GoldTop (great axe)... but felt a little underwhelmed in the drive dept. IIRC, I liked my SD JB better. That's why I was looking for something with a Ceramic magnet... I can keep the volume around 8... then crank it open for a boost.

Any complaints with the Painkillers?

Plenty of kick. You can't go wrong with either. I do like ceramic magnets too, but I figured I'd give the Aldrich a try and I loved it, so it stayed in. Could be with that particular guitar. I had an Aldrich in a PRS once and it didn't last long in favor of a MC Afwayu. The MC Afwayu got bounced from the guitar I now have the Aldrich in.

For ceramics, can't go wrong with Painkillers, Cold Sweats or 500T in the LP.

Looking for pickup recommendations for a Gibson LP Custom BBR7.

I usually go for the SD 59/Distortion combo but might want to try something different. Some contenders I was looking at were the BK Ceramic Warpig, BK Painkiller... or even possibly the BK Holydiver. The guitar has a solid mahogany body... no maple cap... but believe it or not, sometimes they are tonally on the bright side.

Suggestions?

'59/Custom. I love the Custom, had it in numerous guitars, and going to put one in my Traditional. I actually dont mind the '57 in the neck. I find it tighter and less compressed than the Distortion, yet warmer.

riff raff + booster = amazing for metal and really versatile
unless you really want something hairy and compressed

The Aldrich are hot and have a good thunk, I used it for awhile. I switched to Motor City Afwayu in my main PRS and I have another in my Hamer. Great pick up, and just another recommendation for you =D.

One more consideration, PRS Tremonti pick up. Great pick up for metal, I used this one for quite some time in both my main guitars too =D.

I have a 3 PU BB7. I only replaced the bridge pickup with a Duncan Custom-Custom and it works out extremely well for me. I'm an 80-90's hard rock, neo-classical guy. When I bought mine someone had BB1, 2 and 3 in her. The bridge pickup was ice pick brittle for me and had to go. The neck and mid (rarely use the middle) pickups are fine.

and yeah BB7's are all mahogany w/o a maple cap.

I have MM's in an Ibanez 7620 (7 string). Solid mount to the wood. They sound fantastic in that guitar. Big, phat, tight, growly. Vaguely EMG-ish. But in the LPC I would go Aldrich. Have them in an all mahogany RG (also solid mount) and they are perfect in that one.

In my own LPC I have JB/Jazz, maybe too pedestrian for you on this build but I think that combo (mahog/ebony) needs the upper mid snap of a JB/Aldrich. YMMV.

I have a LP with Rebel Yells in it and a ESP mirage neck-through (super strat w/ maple neck, alder wings and ebony fretboard) with Miracle Man in bridge.

The Rebel Yell sounds good in the LP, it replaced the stock LP studio pickups (498t + other one i forgot the number of) and sounds good. The guitar was very dark and muddy with stock pickups. Sounds doesn't clean up as nicely with volume roll off but that is mainly due to the output of the pickups, the RYs are much higher output. For lead sounds / metal riffing they sound great though. Very tight bottom end and rich mids/highs.

I haven't tried the Miracle Man (Ceramic) in an LP but my ESP might have similar tone caracteristics, fat sound with strong mids from the neck-through construction and it has an ebony board like an LPC. These are the best pickups I have tried and will not leave my guitar. Lows are massive and tight, mids pretty scooped but that suited my guitar perfectly (and my amp : Mesa Mk 4) because it was kind of mid heavy, highs are very sweet for leads (the ESP is HSS, I almost never use the neck pickups even for leads, the bridge is just so nice) but can still be very aggressive depending on how amp is set.

I would say the RY is a safe bet in an LP, but if the MM (ceramic bridge) sounds half as good in an LP as in my ESP I would get these without any hesitation.

I got some guy to wind me up some in his basement. It's a fucking LP. It'll sound just fine. But I'm sure shitty pickups could ruin it, but generally anything you go with that's not made by Gibson themselves (some guys love the stock ones, but I have no love for those. I'm a high gain guy, mind you) should be solid. Not saying they're all the same, but you just gotta grab some, play it a while, and decide if it hits the sweet spot you're looking for.

BTW, before you do that. I highly recommend you get Callaham hardware. That's the best upgrade I've ever done on my LP. It'll make it a little brighter, so good to upgrade that before choosing pickups.

I swapped my 498T for a Motor City 2nd Degree BB. Love it!
Still have the 490 in the neck, lowered it away from strings a bit as it's a bit hotter.
how they are working together for you?

I've got Dimarzio Super 2 ( yes Super two not Three, TWO) in the bridge of my Tremonti (not the same as les paul but close so  )

and i've been debating for the neck, Dominion or Evo I neck.

Been eyeballing the Alpha/omega set and the Nazgul + something (not fond of A5)

if only the imperium neck came in non f-space

Just to follow up on this one... and for any other suggestions:

1. I tried the BK Painkiller bridge... way to mid voiced for me. I like a more scooped mid-range voicing. So that one is out. Too djenty sounding maybe???

2. The SD Jazz/Distortion combo kills in my LPC BBR7. Winner. Keeper.

3. Still looking for set for my '68 Custom Reissue... same guitar, but with a maple cap. Would like something high-output with a good amount of tight low end bass... focused, not flubby low end.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

PS: In somewhat related news... put a SD BlackWinter in my Jackson RR1 and it sounds great.

Manlius Asphalt cured my LPJ blues. Has maple cap and neck however.
