Note to self: This is why I buy used. :) I'm still digging my EJ strats though, both purchased used and likely together for less than one new EJ strat after the price increase.

:D

thats actually smart cause fender is completely raping people right now..Im on the hunt for a used EJ right now, but i want the Candy apple, Im confident I'll find a used one with a reasonable. I've seen YJM's go as low as a grand, its just patience. I just sold a custom shop 69' body for $700 bucks and i paid $450 for it, granted it was a International sell, I let the auction run and boom! I also think its ridiculoua that Marshall is asking so much for the JVM combo, which i wouldn;t mind having as a home practice amp..

Fender may be a a bigger joke than Gibson when it comes to the pricing of their guitars. The fit and finish dont warrant close to what they ask on anything.... Let the prices go up, I laugh at all the sucker who buy into drink the brand name koolaid..

but I like koolaid :D and Squier :D

Hey I dig the guitars to but lets be honest here, you're talking about a bolt on guitar. I love the YJM as well but it just inst worth what theyre asking. Ive got to Fender Strat Bodies at home with 2 Dimarzio prewired YJM pickguard/Pickup assemblies along with all of the necessary hardware. Ive got 2 Scalloped Necks coming from Warmoth that are just as good as anything that Fender is going to put out, dare I say, they do a better job on the scalloping. I guarantee it will sound just as good..

For awhile, there were some cool strats that they put out at decent prices but the increase is ludicrous...

I hope you have somebody to do fretwork, because the last Warmoth I put together had uneven fret height and the worst fret finishing job I've seen. The ends would almost cut my hand they were so sharp.

I've never heard negative comments about YJM Strats' scalloping work. All the big closeup pics I've seen have shown fantastic scalloping quality...

Oh yeah the bad................

I could have stuffed 2-3 business cards into each side of the neck pocket it was that bad, never saw a $1500 guitar with that bad of a neck fit in my life. Anyone in CT can go to the Sam Ash in New Haven to see this btw.

. I have a great sounding '98 California Strat in vintage white, had 6000 frets put on it, bought a loaded Yngwie Pickguard on ebay, perfect for me.
this!!

Just kiddin' man. Sounds like those strats your makin' will be killer! BTW - I would ever buy a new Fender - but maybe a good looking Squier with GC empoyee pricing - that's more my speed :D !

Its all good Darren, When you think about it, how much worse is a Squier than a standard American? They can be turned into great instruments with very little work and cost IMO..

yep Barzini did it right cause that 98' Cali strat, which they don't make anymore, was/is IMO a fantastic guitar ( especially for the price) with a great neck and alder body, etc. even you wanted to scallop that, there's enough real estate on that neck to pull it off without too much tonal compromise. I amazed that people don't know about that series/model.

New ones (´07->) have very nice deep and uniform scallops for what I've seen in pics! During few years before that they made lighter scallops where the middle part was more flat. I know you knew this, Kage. :)

And what's wrong with a bolt on neck?

And can you describe the differences in tone between a bolt on neck, set neck, neck thru body and a deep set neck tenon?

The newer Necks are a bit thin compared to previous models Dave, I dont like fat necks but Im not a big fan of thin either...

Anthony can back me up on this

Yep, the neck is thinner on the newer ones. :)

Nothings wrong with them Dave, did I say there was? However, if you want to talk about Price increases , you need to take construction in to consideration and lets face it, a Bolt on isnt as work intensive as any of the others that you mentioned...

As for the tonal differences, its all subjective. Ive heard Bolt ons sound beefier than hell and Set necks get down right Stratty...

Did you have a point?

Gainzilla":309glmpg said:

You came off a bit presumptuous such that nothing good could become from a bolt on neck. Some of the best sounded guitars ever made have bolt on necks, and it has nothing to do with the "beefiness" of the tone it may produce.

That's all...

The older ones must have been serious 59 radius cause the 08 model I played had some back, scallopes pretty deep as well. Then again that was the first Yngwie that I have played.

Ok, using my old MIM strat,

$250-270 Yngwie loaded pickguard
$225 or so CBS reverse headstock neck

$700 for a Yngwie clone saving over $900

About the EJ strats, there are several on TGP that have been posted for awhile now.

the older models prior to 07' had a more of a comfortable "C"shape vs. the newer ones feel like slimmer "U" shape model. The difference being the chunky C shape modeled after a early 70's era vs, late 60's U shape. They still play great regardless. I think the fact that the newer ones have a deeper scallop make the neck appear thinner.

Yngwie Strats sell for under $1000 used sometimes but usually they're in the 1000-1200 range. All you have to do is convince the seller how gay Yngwie is and that he shouldn't be seen playing that wankers model   I think i may save for another one.
