The Rolling Stones. 1968-1972.

Hot Rocks is in my Car right now. For me that was the greatest Stone era as well.
Compilation from '64-'71. Lotsa great stuff on that from the early albums and some from my favorite era... The only thing it doesn't cover is their masterpiece - Exile...

Steve

Gotta love me some Bon Scott-era AC/DC as well. Powerage album in particular. When "Mutt Lange" got ahold of their production, they almost sounded too polished, to my ears.

There's an argument that can be made against any of those bands, except

The Beatles

(and maybe The Stones)

But it's not even close, ask any rock critic/historian. There is no debate

Unless it's about personal opinions (the greatest to you), and then we don't really care

It fluctuates a bit for me but if I were stranded on a desert island kind of thing I'd rather have the Zeppelin collection than any other band. If I could transport myself through time and sit front row to any band in their prime it would also be Led Zeppelin so.....Led Zeppelin.

(many many greats out there though)

I'd say The Beatles, and they aren't even on my personal radar.

How would you answer the question except "to you"?

Wasnt looking for "stats" answer by a rock historian.

Was just asking what band the members here chose as THEIR greatest rock band ever.

As in my favorite rock band?
I can't really choose one. I like all the usual suspects, own a lot of their records, but there isn't one that stands above the others. I used to really like U2 (anything pre-Pop mostly) 10 years ago, had big AC/DC, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest kicks throughout the years.

though the beatles influence is undeniable....there is no way i would think to myself 'man, the beatles just ROCK'

RUSH. Still strong, and I can listen to all eras of them no problem.

They are my sentimental choice as well.Love all eras of Rush (even the synthesizer drenched 80s).

If I had to pick a more current band I would say The Black Crowes. One of my favorite rock bands ever. At times they remind me of a modern edged Rolling Stones (from a song perspective). These two tunes just do it for me:
