Guitarists you just don't understand

Jack White..

Don't get me wrong, he's prolly a great guy. I like his story a lot. 'Very oppressed from what I understand, but his music does not speak to me and I'm from Detroit area..

Quick story.. Back in like 2003-4, I was going to pickup my girlfriend but I was early, so I pulled into the parking lot of a nearby Bowling Alley to wait it out a bit. Next thing I hear is this music coming from the house nearby so loud that it sounded like a real shitty band practicing. LOL. That music was the White Stripes as I later recognized it on the radio.. Blah...

Don't get it..

So knowing I'm a hard rock/metal/metalcore dude would someone be willing to post a Gary Moore clip or song of something I 'should' be able to get into? Keeping in mind I recognize his ability and influence. I'm on youtube now and nothing is jumping out at me - even though he has super feel and super soul and such.

PS: Not a huge Jack White fan either.

ok I will bite

Clapton. Just not that great. I do enjoy some Cream but as far a guitarist meh.

John Mayer... apparently he is a guitar god to a lot of people.

Joe Perry or Aerosmith for that matter. I dont understand it at all. My friends know they can get me to leave if they play it.

Jerry Garcia. Not even on drugs can I tolerate it.

Kiss pick any guitarists they had.

and this is going to piss a lot of people off but Eddie Van Halen.... I guess if I would have grew up when they first came out maybe I would have a different opinion. I do like some of their songs from the DLR era. The ones that come on the radio. And I get that he pioneered some stuff but it boggles my mind that people are still chasing his sound.

Robert Fripp.

Saw him open for Satriani many years ago.

His guitar on the stand feedbacking and him looking at it for 15 minutes. Man we where badtripping. Never understood what the hell he was doing there.

Went outside to smoke a big one then came back for Satch. Now THAT was something.

Great post idea!

*John Mayer: Is there anything he's doing we haven't heard done better 1,000 times? (I don't get it)
*Kirk Hammett: Blues-box garbage riffs on repeat. Oh what I'd give to replace his wah pedal with a volume pedal just before the show. (I don't get it)
*Joe Bonamassa: Wow he's good! Wow I don't care! (I don't get it)

Can't stand Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Joe Bonamassa, Kirk Hammet and Malmsteen

The thing about Clapton is that you have to consider the times he grew out of. The Beno album with John Mayall and the Blues Breakers in 1966 was a big deal because nobody heard a guitar tone like that before. It was distorted and overdriven and he played Blues licks he learned from importing records of black blues players from the states.

Then Hendrix took it to the next level. It's these guys that played distorted Electric Guitar that set the path for the rest of us. Before that, people played music in suits and played clean guitar tones.. LOL

Zakk Wylde - does the same thing over and over and over. Wish I could alternate pick as fast and clean as him, though.
Dimbag - I know, I know. Sacrilege. He’s a great guitarist, I think it’s more that I just never got into Pantera. I respect them a lot, but their music doesn’t move me.

^ Yeah Alan. I should like that song by Gary but I don't. Hard to explain. Almost like he's trying too hard. I'm more into the Scotti Hill, Warren DeMartini, Reb Beach, EVH swing thing. Feels more natural to me and more fun to listen to. Sorry.

Yeah man. Thanks for taking the time to post that. I'm familiar with that material. Just doesn't move me. Great guy RIP and like I said he is a great guitarist its just not my thing. Conversely, I do like Jeff Beck, Clapton, and people like Frusciante. Hell, I even like some of Prince's (RIP) and John Mayer's stuff over Moore. That might be tough for some to swallow but I'm just being honest.

Ok how about guitarist that people don't get but should?

The good, I mean great part starts at 2:40 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... e=emb_logo

So you don't like Gary after hearing that?

Here's mine - Bag-0-licks SRV
Holdsworth, he actually looked like he was sleeping when he played, poor guy. Tried to like his style, but, I didn't.
KISS - Are they not just a joke? C'mon man, that's not music!
Bruce Springbean - how fucking stupid, really, really, stupid.

Christopher Cross with Tom Anderson Guitar Boogie C+ amp go to 3:50. What the fuck the guy can play - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqjFUPya5v8

Painkiller fucking rocks! Stopped listening right before Screaming for Vengeance came out? Go back and give it another listen.

Man...tough crowd. I’d love to hear what players you guys actually love along with your other opinions. Just makes me curious. A lot of players mentioned in here I love and have huge respect for.

lol. You guys are all crazy... and my name is psychodave...
