Gut shots - Uberschall ultra EL34

Put a tube in, give it a wiggle while keeping a close eye on the soldered pins. If you see anything move, that would be an issue.
I see no movement at all but don't know what im looking for. Hard to get a good picture.

In my opinion pin 8 looks fucked. Almost as if there is no solder at all on the left side.

Im going to 311s Thursday I believe to bias the new tubes and check it out

The solder on these joints heats and cools every time you use the amp. Sometimes the the solder will just crack a little. So you are looking for a tiny crack on the actual solder. it's hard to see, that's why with the amp running, techs will give the tube a little push and listen for cracking. Very common on cheaper amps like fender and marshall.

Ill bring my hammer to 311s😅 jk but assuming new tubes make it work I will test that out

Wow, so the flow chart makes sense now

If you value your amp take it to Mike @ ACME GUITARS in Dogtown.
If you don't value your amp keep on your present course.
My guess would be improper impedance load as you were running various cabs.

Jesus christ that pcb is busy....this is why i just go turretboards.

I had an uber once and it had a fuse on the pcb. Did you check if you have one also? Maybe it is as simple as that thing being blown.

Honestly, I only had the thing for a couple days and it blew the ht fuse. As i had just bought the amp, i just returned the damn thing. I have never had another amp quit working or blow a fuse

I did look a couple of times but couldn't find one. I spoke to Jorg at Bogner and he didnt mention it but I did not ask him specifically about that. It has the HT fuse then 2 tiny fuses under where the power cable goes, theres a little fuse box there.

I bought a New MI Audio Beta directly from Michael and within hours a fuse blew. Got a new one and no issues since. Only other time that happened.

After confirming the fuse was good and that it was safe, I did some additional testing with Jorg, he called me on the phone. Excellent service from Bogner by the way.

Also after speaking privately with a couple of members here I put the tubes back in and decided to turn the amp on. It fucking worked and im dumbfounded.

Only strummed a chord and turned it back off however. Mentally fried today and no guitar playing. Im hoping the issue is not intermittent.

Good news - amp works
Bad news - I have absolutely no idea what went wrong.

I did plug in direct from guitar so it wasn't anything with my board.

It worked today with my Mills cab, at the venue with the amp fail I was using my Peavey, going to check inside there soon to see if a speaker got disconnected or something. Also using a different speaker cable today. 🤷‍♂️

I really wish you the best of luck, bud. This shit sucks.

I know this doesn't really explain how I was still getting no sound while plugged straight into the amp after the failure BUT....it's my noise gate I believe.

I just checked both cabs straight it and they work no problem.

Plugged in my board and immediately the sound started cutting in and out. I had issues with this noise gate before, simply not doing anything (as if it was off the whole time) and periodic issues of on/off switching not working so at the time, on stage when this happened my noise gate was my first immediate thought.

The fact that I still got no sound that night while plugging straight in really baffles me though.

Not even sure what to think. Maybe was under pressure, in a panic and did something wrong that im not aware of 🤷‍♂️

Now to revisit your best noise gate thread lol

So I wasn't completely honest with you when i said i never had any problems with amps

. My first tube amp was an evh 5153. Right after the warranty, i turned it on and no sound. So i freaked the fuck out. I was probably drunk too. Called up guitar center and they said nothing they could do. So i calmed down and looked at it and looked at my pedals and cables..earlier that day i had moved around my board and switched the send and return from my zuul.

I have never been so happy to feel like a moron. But my point is, we all have this happen. I have been to amp fests where we get drunk and try to switch amps and nothing happens and we are all stumbling around trying to fix it

Send the amplifier back to Bogner for repair. Crazy complicated and at least 4 copper trace layers in some of his FR4 boards.

Honestly the complexity and risk for failure was the only downside I had for my XTC. It was literally perfect otherwise.

I heard someone say cold solder joints :checkthisout:
Pin 8 looks fucked to me.

But the amp is working, not sure if you saw my update. I know the threads are all over the place.

I spoke with Jorg about pin 8 specifically here and he said:

"No don't think so, it would be just one tube and it would not cut the signal, there would be still very loud volume."

Yeah you’re correct I don’t currently know the status?

One thing is for sure and that is you can’t troubleshoot an amp on an Internet bench. I’d send it in for piece of mind alone. Amps way too complicated to know really what’s going on. You’ll get it back and have it fixed and sleep better at night knowing the designer is repairing it.
