Guys who play both standard tuning and Eb, change gauges?

My Approach may sound odd, but for the most part I actually like to use the same string guage for both Eb and E but different brands. Fender Bullets have a tighter tension so i use the 9 set for Eb which i rarely play in and Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9's for E standard. Also depends on what Im playing, i have some guitars with regular 10's in E standard for more chordal stuff and finger picking.

I used 10-52's for Eb for quite awhile, but playing 2-3 nights a week in clubs mixed with hauling tons of gear without roadcrew and trying to keep fit by lifting weights a few times a week, well it just started to really hurt. I felt the pain mostly in my elbows. I bend a lot and I like wide vibrato and it was starting to really kill by the 3rd set on the 2nd night. It really worried me, I really thought playing guitar was over.

I decided to go back to 9-42's for both Eb and E. No more pain. I do miss the way the 10's gave a fight and when you play full E chords the guitar didn't go sharp a full step..lol.

The guys that can use really heavy guages, good for you....I is a whimp and can't :)

24.75"- Eb 11-50 dunlop heavy core
25"-Eb 10-48 dunlop
25.5"-Eb 10-46 dunlop

Thats just my 2 cents and yes I like the new dunlop strings. They really arent that bad

10-46 standard tuning.

11-48 Eb tuning.

12-52 D tuning.

You must have built up your hands trying to take that chevelle around corners to play 11s :D
Its not that bad. Luckily I don't really play much in Eb tuning. It doesn't sound "right" to me.

Full step down is pretty cool though.

I agree. I like A440 (10-46, Gibson) or down to D or C# (whole guitar, not drop tuned). I only tune to Eb if I'm trying to play along to a band in that tuning which unfortunately in hard rock is a lot. Right now I'm rockin' some 12-54's on my C# tuned V and it's almost perfect (12-52 good for D but loose in the ass at C#). The plain 20 G string is the only one putting up a fight. Back to a 19 I think.

Try a wound G string instead.

In my case (Eb with 9s) that feels quite nice although my guitar got a little out f intonation.

No, I hate the feel of a wound G. No bite for my Death Metal Ace Frehely licks :D
