Happy Birthday Kirk Hammett

I don't hate Kirk, he seems like a cool guy to sit around and drink a few beers with. He really complimented the sound in the early days and nobody can take Kill Em All and And Justice Ripping away from him. He did a fine job. Since then though....... wah overkill is right and over time that fast shrill vibrato just lends itself to grating on the ears. That said, Kirk seems to be the least of Metallica's problem. LArs has no feet anymore or timing for that matter and that whole clip was a total mess time wise. Haven't seen Metallica live since the black album.. and it was actually Kirk's birthday then too. Maybe they are just sick of playing the same old shit all the time.. it has been 20 years since the show I saw I guess! I'm sure Bruce Dickinson is tired of playing Run to the Hills and Number of the Beast too.

I'd trade my chops for his bank account. That way we'd both be better off. :D

:D We are a bunch of internet warrior pricks on here aren't we ! I wish i was making a few mill to release albums that I know would be bought regardless of the content too!

Happy birthday Kirk! In my books (and several millions others) Metallica will be THE reason to get into playing the guitar. Can't deny that. :D

Ever since I got Internet at home, I don't like Kirk either.

I don't get all the hate either. I can't blame them for trying to do a song they have been playing every show for the last 20 yrs a bit different. Who is your favorite guitarist and has he ever done anything comparing to the first four Metallica albums? Let the critics have their Dream theatre or whatever perfectly played precision metal they like that most could give a shit to listen to. It definitely seems trendy to bash him on the net.

His financial success is totally irrelevant. It annoys me so much when people respond to criticism by saying "he's still got his millions and you're just a bedroom player", etc. Fuck that, he's a terrible guitar player. Deal with it.

James --------------> Kirk.

Totally agree.....

I have seen them 3 times in the last 2 years and about 75% of the set is from Kill em all to AJFA. The other 25% from the Black Album onwards with just a couple off Load/Reload and DM. Hopefully though, we won't hear any Call of K-Lulu.

Steve

Whoa... I have to agree, that sounded just terrible in so many ways.

Ok kirk definitely has become a worse player over the years in my opinion, and his vibrato in that clip is horrible, but his tech needs shooting for handing him a guitar that out of tune at a show

The vocals don't have much grit, the guitar wasn't tuned, it seemed offbeat at times, whoever did the mixing really needs a lesson, and God please take away his ability to do any sort of vibrato... Overall a shitty performance from a band that hasn't had it in a long time. Kinda sad really. Nevertheless as some of you mentioned, people are going to buy their stuff regardless of its content, and while there are more talented players out there, very few will not cite Metallica as an important influence.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes, guys! You rock

lol...here's to many more years of shitty vibrato and poor execution on stage!

Just 4 posts in and this shit gets started. Before I clicked on the thread I was wondering how long it would take. I was close.

If you guys have a real problem, PM me your addresses, I'll send some passes. The next time I'm in your area, you can come back stage and we'll just hang out.

Bullshit you're not Kirk.

If you are by the way I am a huge fan not a hater, I got into guitar because of you.

I like kirk, i thought his solos on everything till reload was good, i agree that his playing hasn't been as good the last 10 yrs and i don't think any of his solos on dm are as good as the early days, kirk might not be the best live player but his early stuff made me a fan and back in the day he was one of my fav players.

James totally fd up the vocals. Started the song with the second verse and repeated it a few times.

Kirk... What do you think of the AxeFX II?

I think it's alright. I just don't have the patience to tinker with stuff like that. I'd rather have someone else dial it in for me.

lol he isn't Kirk... if he were, good for him for having a sense of humour.
