Happy Birthday Kirk Hammett

Meh...

I don't hate Kirk on a personal level. Seems like a nice guy, in a pothead kind of way.

And I'll admit there's a lot of jealousy involved when I'm bagging on Kirk. There are probably ten guys in every decent-sized city who could have smoked Kirk back in the day when he was a decent player -- much less now. He won life's lottery. So be it. I don't want him to die or anything like that. It would just be nice if he stepped-up and actually worked on his playing and took it seriously enough to deserve some of the accolades that he's been given. But hey... he's got a house in Hawaii and some silly-expensive comic book collection. So there's no hunger there. You'd think that peer respect would be cause for some hunger, but it doesn't appear that's a big motivator for him. So whatever... to each his or her own. I don't sit around day after day, grinding my teeth over Kirk's luck. It's just something that makes me chuckle when I think about it.

For me (a child of the 80s), the two guys who make me chuckle the most are Kirk and Mick Mars. But hey... I guess at least they were better than some of the grunge players who followed them...

BTW... on the [impossible] chance that really is you posting in this thread Kirk -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I'm serious man. I honestly hold no ill-will towards you and wish you the best. Just telling it like it is (or at least how I see it). Nothing personal. Too many rock stars surround themselves with ass-kissers and lose complete touch with the real world and lose the ability to look at their work objectively. They poop-out a hurried record and assume that their turd is golden because some yes-men painted it that way. But that's not reality. Surround yourselves with a few good men and women who'll tell it like it is and remind you that you put your pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else.
