Looks pretty easy. Thinking of giving it a shot.

Ok. So I put in the mod. I currently have 22v Zeners in there (20s are on the way, but I doubt it would make that much difference). It sounds pretty good boosted, but I'm getting some extra noise and some slight artifacts that sound kinda like a phaser or flanger. It's pretty faint, but it gets on my nerves! LOL! :D Any ideas

Doesn't it? Folks on Metroamp seem to like it. But its hard to get straight answers out of them sometimes, so I figured I'd ask here.

Use two 1N4747 20v zeners connected the same way as the above diagram.

Cheers,
Mike

Anyone? Steve (SAH5150), Dave?
I had that master in both of my Jose Arredondo modded Marshalls and it sounds great. The placement of the master and the diode clipping give a great, higher gain tone.... Give it a try, it sounds cool... It'll be in my amp - footswitchable in and out of the circuit... The original had 2 20V Zeners as Mike says and that is what I'm using as well...

Oh man! I'm getting really psyched to try it out! LOL! :D
How hard is it to switch it out? Can I use a 1 Meg push-pull? or something?

Ok lets get something straight. Generally in Jose mods there were 2 masters that you could switch between. One was a normal master and one was this master. The clipping diodes remained in the circuit no matter what master was being used. The vast majority of Jose's that I have seen didn't even have the clipping diodes in them. You can just add the clipping to a amp if you like.

This would be going into a non-MV Marshall. Is there something additional I need to consider?

Here is how I switch it. It is called the "Zen Master" on my layout. You can ignore the relays on the board and just concentrate on the physical switch.

Yes Vlad, try it also without the diodes.
Its a very cool Master IMO.

Yes you can wire it to a push pull pot or mini switch.
Go for the push pull pot since you don't want to drill any holes in your '71
You can get a 1MA push pull pot CTS from http://www.tubesandmore.com
part# R-VC1MA-PP

Cheers,
Mike

+1, that's why on my Cali mod the saturation switch in the center position is just that

I use it on a push pull as well, AKA Smooth Switch.

experiment with diodes. I found a value that gives you a killer tone and it drops the over all volume down so you can get a great overdrive at whisper levels.

can anybody explain how deferent values of Zeners will sound compared to the 20 volt?

i've read where Mark C explained some before, but don't remember anymore.

Thanks Steve!
That's the diode behind the relay, correct?

So it switches the diodes in and out?
