Has anyone tried this Jose MV mod? Update

Looks pretty easy. Thinking of giving it a shot.

Ok. So I put in the mod. I currently have 22v Zeners in there (20s are on the way, but I doubt it would make that much difference). It sounds pretty good boosted, but I'm getting some extra noise and some slight artifacts that sound kinda like a phaser or flanger. It's pretty faint, but it gets on my nerves! LOL! Any ideas

I had that master in both of my Jose Arredondo modded Marshalls and it sounds great. The placement of the master and the diode clipping give a great, higher gain tone.... Give it a try, it sounds cool... It'll be in my amp - footswitchable in and out of the circuit... The original had 2 20V Zeners as Mike says and that is what I'm using as well...

Ok lets get something straight. Generally in Jose mods there were 2 masters that you could switch between. One was a normal master and one was this master. The clipping diodes remained in the circuit no matter what master was being used. The vast majority of Jose's that I have seen didn't even have the clipping diodes in them. You can just add the clipping to a amp if you like.

This would be going into a non-MV Marshall. Is there something additional I need to consider?

Here is how I switch it. It is called the "Zen Master" on my layout. You can ignore the relays on the board and just concentrate on the physical switch.

Yes you can wire it to a push pull pot or mini switch.
Go for the push pull pot since you don't want to drill any holes in your '71

+1, that's why on my Cali mod the saturation switch in the center position is just that

I use it on a push pull as well, AKA Smooth Switch.

experiment with diodes. I found a value that gives you a killer tone and it drops the over all volume down so you can get a great overdrive at whisper levels.
