Has perfect high gain guitar tone been achieved?

I didn’t even have access to that! I remember watching Metallica VHS tapes in slow motion and pausing to see where their fingers were at on the fingerboard. There sure was a lot more time to kill in the 80s and 90s!

Saturation is fine if playing leads. Tight I don't need for most of the stuff I play. Some fast rhythm parts. Too tight is stiff. Too loose is flubby. The feel as much as the sound.

My idea of high gain is a lot less gain than most of the clips posted on RT. In general I prefer poweramp overdrive over preamp distortion.

Shit man . My tones are stifff while being tight .

The options for a guitar player now are endless compared to the 70's and 80's.

Young guitar players have no idea of the struggle.

I'll be honest, the newer bands with polished tones and everything in perfect timing does nothing for me. That raw sound like Motorhead's "Cradle to the Grave" is what I dig.

The older I get, the less I like over produced sounds. Guys like Paisley, Bonomassa and Koch have sounds I dig. Early EVH too.
