as in mass...WTF?!
My shoulder is killing me after playing just half an hour with my 8.8 lbs guitar (a super-strat!!).
I always rated this guitar as my #1 and now it is officially on the chopping block b/c of the weight....
I know a lot of guys don't mind this and even look specifically for he heavy ones, but it's definitely not for me!
The average weight for LPs is over 8 lbs right?!! I guess that rules out an LP in my future!!
Unless it's a stuido guitar, I'm never buying a heavy guitar again....regardless of any improvement in tone!

I bought a non-weight relieved Norlin LP with a maple neck, and filled in the extra spaces in the cavities with lead so it wouldn't float off my shoulders while playing.

I agree, I used to have heavy les pauls...now I have fully chambered GMP's, and I always try to buy the lightest I can.

In before "better hit the Gym" coments

Wait, I already did

This may sound silly (it won't change the weight factor), but try using a wider strap if you can, like a 3" soft leather strap. It will disperse the load so to speak. I tried it with my old LP and it helped.

I would absolutely say to do some dead lifts at the gym. Good for your entire body. Dead lifts actually increase your bone density. Not crazy weight.

Wide straps help. Super low hung with shoulders hunched does not help either.

For tone? I can't say weight matters that much within normal parameters.

This. I do crossfit and can deadlift twice my body weight. Never have problems wielding the Norlin Lester.

Good God man. 8.8lbs?
Eat some red meat and do some shoulder presses you doughboy. ;)

;-)
I didn't say i couldn't lift it, I just said it was uncomfortable after half an hour.
I am using a 3" strap BTW as well, but you're right, I do need to hit the gym again!

Get your lift on!

I've come to terms with the fact that I don't like heavy guitars either. I like it to feel like the guitar was made for me, like an extra appendage. If it's heavy, it's starts to be a burden to my shoulder. I am a small dude though, only weigh 150-155, could be the reason.

Try this strap however. My wife got me one for Christmas. It is by far the most comfortable strap on the market. Makes a 10 lb guitar feel like its 6 lbs. Plus it has a cool pouch built in for picks.

In a half hour to feel discomfort may mean something is wrong.

If you can see a chiropractor that may tell you something.

I was a part time weight room attendant a long time ago. There would often be people there on advice from their Dr. To strengthen their core. Often times a Dr visit and a proper bit of focused exercise can help yo enjoy a better quality of life.

Desk jobs are destructive!
