Hey guys -

I recently purchase an Orange closed-back 2x12 to gig with. I have been playing through a huge 4x12 with Eminence speakers and love the tone but I'm getting tired of lugging it around. I've been somewhat disappointed with the v30s in the 2x12. I'm looking for something less harsh I guess. With more warmth but that can still growl. I play through a Splawn Quickrod. Any recommendations?

Thanks

Eminence Wizards and also Celestion Lynchbacks have always sounded great in my buddy's Quickrod/2x12 setup. V30s are definitely not the speakers to pair with a QR - way too heavy in the mids on both the amp's voicing and the speaker.

+1 on the Lynchbacks. Also, you might also want to check out some Creambacks for even more flavors of the Greenback vibe. 65's for squishy classic rock (ish) tones, 75's for a tighter, more aggressive tone.

G12 65s, original or reissue. Great with any Marshall circuit.

Throw a creamback, CL80, Mesa C90, or any G12-65 derivative (like a Splawn Small Block 65) in with a V30 and you might like it.
Otherwise two 65s are a great match for that amp as stated above.

two eminence delta 12 a the regular ones, about $150 all in. more warmth, HUGE growl, can handle ANYTHING you throw at them, i often push 400 watts of bass into the same cab. guys are afraid of them because they are neutral, and billed for PA. KILLER guitar speaker. LOVE my Diezels with them. moreso then V30.

I REALLY like my 2x12 with a V30 and a Creamback. Great mix.

Just put 2 Scumback Blackbacks in my 2x12, Very punchy and warm..

My buddy runs a Helios with a Bogner OS212. Recently put two Blackback scums (BM75 maybe?) and they sound really, really good with that amp.

G12-65 + V30 is what I use live in my vertical Mesa 2x12 cab. G12-65 on top.
Mellows things out nicely (given that the EVH 5150 is rather bright).

Also round, balanced, but a tad more punchy in phat lows would be a G12-K85 / K100.

G12K-100s.

Different flavor than V30s. Mids are more even in frequency response, the highs are very present but NOT harsh, and they can handle infinite amounts of bass to produce thunderous lows whilst remaining tight. Very focused modern feel if that's your thing.

one man-o-war, and one governor would probably work well. Billy Gibbons was using cabs with that combo for a while. or multible cabs loaded with each, if I remember correctly...

-maybe you can find a couple vintage 55hz blackbacks!!!

-don't hate, blackbacks matter..

Sleeper speaker IMO. I've had a pair for almost 15 years. Used them on guitar, bass and keys. Always deliver. I like Celestion's for Marshall voiced amps but these in the right cab sound great on Marshall esq amps too.

I have two Creamback 65s in a Marshall 1936 2x12 and it sounds awesome with my DSL. I can finally turn up the treble knob.

I've got a modded '80 JMP and I've tried these combinations in a Bogner OS 2 X 12:

2 CL80's
2 Scumback J75's
2 Scumback H55's
Creamback H75, V30
Creamback M65, V30
2 Creamback M65's
Creamback H75, M65

So far I am liking the 2 M65's with an open back panel that I made. The open back seems to help with some depth that brings it closer to a 4 X 12 IMO. For heavier styles (I play mostly 70's, 80's classic and hard rock) I can see the V30, H75 mix working well.

I didn't have the back panels cut (for open back) when I had the CL80's or Scumbacks so I'm not sure how they would have worked in that configuration.

I've wonder the same thing. For home use I have 2 2x12 closed back cabs with V30's that I can use.

Wonder if putting a Creamback 65 with one of the V30's would sound better than the all V30 loaded 2x12's for home use?

I have a 2-12" I use and it has a V30 with a WGS-HM75..sounds excellent, nice tight lows + the mids with the 30's..about to be plugging into it shortly.
