Ok the amp I want is a Cameron modded Marshall or a CCV. That is the tone in my head. Since Mark wont return my calls the CCV is out. I would like a Cameron Marshall but the prices are getting near the price of a new CCV. Yeah I know Mark wont return my calls and there is a ??? wait period. I owned a Splawn QR with 4 preamp tubes. It sounded great cranked but sucked at low volumes. I tried the volume pedal in the loop trick and it sounded ok. I have heard the Friedman heads on youtube with the kitchen sink mods. The Purplexi sounded great. How does it sound a Friedman sound at low volumes? OK do I get a Friedman with the kitchen sink mod or a Splawn QR with the new volume on the loop?

Get yourself a JCM800 for under $1000, send it to Mike Fortin in June for the Cali mod which is $500. He can also add whatever options you want depending on how much you want to spend. The Cali mod is very very very close to a Cameron High gain Jose.

Thanks for the reply. I will take a look and find some videos of the Cali mod. Does it have to be the vertical inputs or can it be the horizontal inputs? They are cheaper. Does the Cali mod come with a loop?

ok,well since you mentioned liking the Purplexi amp youtube video with the Friedman KS mod,i figured i'd respond since the amp was mine when i made that video clip.Dave Friedman's mods sound EXCELLENT at even the lowest, bedroom volumes.there's quite a few guys on the forum that own a Friedman-modded amp and can attest to this(i.e. LpFreak,232cap,Tonmazz and Marshall Law to name a few of those guys ;))...the Kitchen Sink mod with the SATURATION switch is all you'd ever need to cover every Marshall tone out there, from classic rock to 80's metal and more.the SATURATION switch feature is Dave Friedman's version of the classic jose-high gain mod(like the cameron jose mod).it's a $50 addtl fee to have this circuit/mod added to an amp that Dave's modding for ya and it's a NO-BRAINER since, with a flick of a toggle switch(or you can have it set-up on a push/pull pot) you get that very saturated,grinding,pissed-off high gain "metal" tone and all for such a cheap price.last i heard,Friedman was charging $500 for ONE mod,$600 for TWO mods or $700 for ALL three mods(aka KITCHEN SINK).if you didnt want to spend the full amount for a KS mod,you could get ONE mod for $500,then add the SAT switch for $50 and between say getting the BROWN EYE mod as your one mod and the saturation circuit, that'll get you tones from AC/DC to Metallica - NO problem!!! ...plus Dave's turn-around times & return e-mails are very fast...

...on a separate note,i'm told Fortin does great work too and his Cali mod does sound excellent based off the clips that i have heard.Splawns are great amps too,as i've owned 3 of them, but i dont think they will satisfy that cameron jose-hg/ccv tone quest that you desire and i do agree that they are not very good at lower, bedroom volumes...just my 3 cents :)

Nedster is right on the money with everything he said. I was flipping amps left and right before I got the KS mod...Ok I am still flipping amps but not that one!  Great at low volumes, high volumes, even when it's off it is nice to look at. I love it and Dave is a first class guy with great response. No BS.

The Fortin Cali mod that I have is the closest to the Cameron Aldrich that I owned a few years back. I like Mike and he does top notch work. If I were trying to satisfy the Cameron fix, that's the way I would go.

The Friedman reminds me of a plexi on steroids. Not as thick and chewy as the Cali mod. Very aggressive and bright, both in a good way. I can't find a bad tone in this thing.

So, if I had to choose between the two amps, I'd probably just sell a kidney on the black market so I could keep both.

I've got both of them. You know I'd do if I were you? Buy them both.

Sounds like one can't go wrong with either a Fortin, Cameron, or Friedman. If it ends with an N, buy it. :D

Wow! Guess your right. I never thought of it that way.

If your looking for something close to Mark's work I would go with a Fortin.

+1. Yea, from what I've heard the Caili mod is Mark's work.

You would be incorrect if you are stating that one Jose was lifted for another. Had two outstanding examples of Mark's work with a cali and while they sound simular I bet every owner would pick their amp everytime.

Plus just installing a mod almost never sounds as good as the amp worked on after the mod.

Cameron or Fortin.....
The other 2 I have had experience with and....Meh...
