Ya know? I tried a Custom Custom many years ago. Not sure if it was because the of the guitar or amp, but it had zero balls....

The Cutom Custom has an A2 magnet and it's very mid-heavy (similar to the CS EVH that Curt has). The Custom 5 has an Alnico 5 magnet which gives it more bottom end and top end zing...

Yeah...it's not crazy scooped, the mids are just rolled back a bit. A5 magnets sound great with mid-heavy Marshalls IMO...
The C5 is a REALLY aggressive pickup to me - not PAF tone... I like 'em though - got one in my blood splatter...Vrad":1dzg7by7 said:AmpliFIRE":1dzg7by7 said:Vrad":1dzg7by7 said:AmpliFIRE":1dzg7by7 said:Try a Duncan Custom Custom or Custom 5...they're like PAF's on steroids IMO. Yeah the clips I've heard were very aggressive. Good, but aggressive. PAF's are usually sweet.sah5150":50tlov1b said:The C5 is a REALLY aggressive pickup to me - not PAF tone... I thought the virtual PAFs were pretty terrible. I pulled them out after a week. Every PAF type in this thread sounds better than those things. Thin and sterile sounding.
application
Like a higher output '59 Model with a deeper bottom end and expanded output. Perfect for pop, country, blues, classic rock and heavy rock.
description
Developed by contributors to our web user group who replaced the ceramic or Alnico 2 magnet in an SH-5 Custom or SH-11 Custom Custom with an Alnico 5. Compared to the SH-5 and SH-11, the Custom 5's tone is more vintage, with less distortion, but it's still very strong and powerful. Clean sounds are rich and full with enhanced presence. Comes with four-conductor hookup cable.
complete setup
Recommended for bridge position. Often a Custom 5 is paired with a '59 for real-deal P.A.F. tones in the neck.
I guess it depends how you the rest of your signal chain is. Like everything else...AmpliFIRE":2hy5701g said:From the SD description:

I personally think it's sweet sounding with just the right amount of aggressiveness...exactly like a higher output '59 as Duncan calls it.

I have a Mojave PAF in one of my So Cals and a Duncan '78 in another So Cal. Those are my favorite "PAF" styles so far. The Mojave one is very wimpy, only 8.0k but it sounds great for recording. The '78 is much more fun to play and lively and juicy.

No, that's your living room that needs painting, unless that is you want the walls to blend in with when the dog accidentally sharts himself on the rug. My room that "needs" painting is my studio..... but that room gets such a beautiful, nice, Pacific ocean breeze when I open the window...... do you get an ocean breeze in your basement Nanook?![]()

If that's out of the Peavey Wolfgang I'd skip that pickup. It's kinda harsh. Ymmv70strathead":plnafhaj said:Vrad":plnafhaj said:Yeah...
