MarkIII Good cleans, can do hard rock, and if you ever do need Some high gain metal you can get it at the turn of a knob. Plus it has one of the best lead channels around IMO.

+1 a Mark III will allow you to get a shit ton of amp for way under your budget.

I second the Sig X! An awesome all around amp. I only sold mine to help fund my elmwood M90, and really wish I still had it. Titans are awesome as well, met the builder at an amp fest and he and his amps were really cool!!!

Any of the 5150 series is excellent.

+1 It'll do anything you say you need. For rock and metal it's a killer!

BTW, the II/+ is more versatile, while the original has a better rhythm channel IMO.
