Holy Shit...the Mak4 pre amp sounds incredible!

Ahh, I see. A CAE Dual line mixer would solve this problem. Run the Mako into the first channel, control volume there to your FX unit. Then Mako and FX into channel 2 for over all level back to the power amp.

Or maybe a loop mod to the Mako before the Master. Friedman does a great loop mod. I would bet Mako didn't do it because not a lot of people would use it this way. (Rack guys use line mixers for these issues.) And I'm sure it was a cost decision as well.

You probably know this stuff already. Give Dave a call and see what he could do for a loop.

Yeah, I need to try one of these soon. I wonder if there is any in the shop, I could just cruise by.

One last idea: If you are running serial with the FX you could use a reduction pedal between the Mako and fx. Dave made one for me and it worked great no tone suck. Basically the opposite of a boost.

I understand that but I have experienced myself with my Mak4 and my G major 2 that the master volume settings I prefer ( super f'n loud) clip the input of the unit at any setting. It was this I was referring to.

The output is pretty linear tone wise, meaning you can run the master very low and have the same sound out of the preamp.
Are you trying to hit the power amp hard?

yes exactly, getting some power amp distortion from power amp. for me its about getting the power amp to breakup not about the tone of the preamp changing.

I just shipped an old dorado head today. I'll have more Mak4s done soon.

You diving this weekend?

It already has level outs. This can be modded for very low level though.

Ahh yes, that is why playing dry kicks ass!
You need a efx unit that sends hot signals.

He was saying he wanted hi levels out of the pre and it was clipping the FX unit even with the FX input level down. So he could run the re levels hi and reduce it after the fact for the FX. Rob swears his Fish sounds better with everything dimed so same situation if you want to keep pre levels high.

Haven't dove in a while. 3 businesses, relationship issues and family health problems. Hopefully after the holidays I'll get with it again. Let me know when some preamps show.
