How about that stock market!

Great time to buy and sell.

Still actively rebalancing for retirement since I retired a few months earlier; than I planned; buying on the dips, selling on the highs. The volatility is working great...now if the Fed drops the interest rate, I expect new highs, and I have plenty waiting to sell, and the time to wait.

If it works out as I plan, I may reward myself with another motorcycle - if it doesn't sell before - it's a simple but rare custom bike that's not easy to find, not many were made, and not many come up for sale... heck, I may just buy it anyway reading what I just wrote. lol
What one would you get in theory?

Not saying until I buy it or someone else does. Like I said, I don't see these come up often so not making it easy for someone else to buy.

It's a bike to ride, not a show bike with fancy paint, engravings, chrome, etc. simple, powerful, fast,...v-twin hardtail, not raked or stretched like my Big Dog.

For those with the means/knowledge to buy and sell outside of a defined 401k (or related plan), there are almost always opportunities. The Dow closed at a high of 45,014.04 on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Save the victory lap until we exceed that mark. 🤷

Yeah but if you had to get a new bike what sort/genre of bike would you get? Another cruiser? A naked sports bike? An adventure bike like a BMW GS series etc.

I'm psyching myself into a ride this morning but it was so cold this morning I didn't want to get out of bed.

depends on what you're buying and selling. Timing the market is a fools game unless you have insider info like our members of Congress.

I know my cost basis, and my target to sell. I'm only a few thousand dollars off my target to sell...so I'm not looking for an all-time high, just my target number.

1-2 more good days I should hit my target, and sell. then I have to wait for the next dip to start buying again with the proceeds. rinse and repeat.

I've got about 1/8th of my savings out in a high interest at call bank account at the moment because it's too high to get back in... Probably good to have it out though as ammo.

As long as my dividends keep pace with inflation then I count any capital gain as a bonus. At the moment I have about a 20% capital gain on my shares so if a crash happens I have that at least as a buffer. Sure it could drop 30-40% or worse but it wouldn't generally take too long to at least get to break even on the capital gain front even if it could take years to get back up to the high water mark. So I will just leave the majority of my shares in and play the long game.

I had sportbikes in the past when I lived closer to mountains. I was thinking about a new 2026 Hyabusa (I bought one new in 2000 before they were neutered), but honestly here on the shore there aren't many great roads and twisties for sport bikes, so I plan to get another cruiser for around town.

my Big Dog Ridgeback is better for longer highway and backroads on the coast around here. I want something easier to ride locally in and around town.

Still a v-twin cruiser, still a hardtail, but not raked or stretched which makes local riding more challenging

As you know I have a litre bike so to speak and a softail. For general riding on the roads the softail is the more interesting bike to ride. You have to be going crazy fast for the litre bike to be interesting. At lawful speeds it's a pretty sterile experience because it's almost too good in terms of handling and linear power delivery.

I've had this sitting in aggressive growth, growth for about twenty years; it's compounded nicely, doubled my initial investment several times over without any additions. I was letting it ride until I retired, now I'm retired. I will convert it to income generation, adding it to current income investments that pay 10-16% annual dividends, distributed monthly...this is my income for living expenses in retirement.

The income portion is only about 1/5 of my wealth; 4/5 is still in aggressive growth / growth with half of that in private banking / equity. I became an accredited investor in my 30s; so I've had access to private equity investments for decades that are not available to non-accredited investors.

Once I get things in place, I plan to move most of my non-income producing wealth in a trust for my adult son, to keep it away from my future creditors, his future ex-wives, etc., when my health deteriorates. The private banking/equity company I'm with also offers trust services.

Yes, I had the 2000 Hyabusa I mentioned, and later an R1. Both were great in the north Georgia mountains, and nearby Deal's Gap, aka "Tail of the dragon" between North Carolina and Tennesee:

318 curves in 11 miles.

I had a K1300s - sort of the BMW equivalent of a hyabusa. Lost my licence on it and got rid of it lol

When did twitter links become news sources? Serious question.
Never joined twitter but it seems like anyone can say anything on twitter, correct?

Well why then would he ever offer to release them unless he’s a complete idiot which he actually is.
He thinks his base will gobble up whatever bullshit he spews at them. Which they generally do. In this case, however, there is a significant portion of MAGA who are genuinely invested in the Epstein files. It's been largely driven by right wing media figures like Kash Patel and Dan Bongino, who made millions by talking about Epstein and promising they would release the files etc.
Now that they ARE the deep state, it's all "Nothing to see here, move on folks."

Not fucking likely.
