Have you ever finally got your hands on a piece of gear you regrettably sold once and vowed to never sell again, but one day you're not really feeling the vibe anymore so you start thinking about trading again? Admittedly, that has happened to me too often. It's a serious waste of money. What do you guys do when you get started down that track of thinking? Do you just sell the shit and move on or do you somehow regroup and stick with it anyway?

Just stop playing it for a while. Take some time off and play something else in the collection for a few weeks. Then plug in to it again. If you still feel that way after some time off then sell.

I've made that mistake a few times. No more lol..

I find I start gassing or not liking a piece when I spend too much time on forums and not enough time actually jamming or practicing.

That never happens with me. If anything, I practice too much.

Never really had that problem. If it sucks,it's out the door.

If it's something I like, and I have become bored with it,I switch to a different amp. If I come back to it and it doesn't inspire me anymore.....I pawn it off on Mailman.

LMAO

It happens with multiple amps all the time. Say you play something often at home and then hit band practice once a week or something. Your ears get used to the amp you play more often, and usually you think the other one sucks. Need to trade off for a bit and play the other more. Then it will do it the opposite way. Ears play tricks on ya after awhile.

Proof of the pudding is in the eating. You may have remembered it in some special way, but if you've actually got it and aren't digging it, I'd probably move it on. But if there's something that the amp is really good at, focus on that for a bit and see if that rekindles it.

Where I've screwed up is when I really like something but get stuck trying to then make it something it's not. For me, I need to recognize that some things are just a one or two trick pony but that can be ok because that's the only trick I really need in the end.

I've had my Boogie JP2C for a year now. I'm still finding new ways to sound awesome. I will never get bored with this amp, it has everything I could dream of. The thing "Shreds" so fucking bad. Real 3 channels that sound sooooo good. 5 ways to gain snot, 2 presence modes, 2 built-in GEQ's.

I just keep everything and never sell, that way i can always come back to it

Yep, spend some time with the hot/dirty/psycho mistress. It will be fun but you'll be back...or not.

This!

I usually try a speaker, or cab change first. The right speaker can really make a difference, and it is much cheaper...At least when you have a 112 combo like me.

Win

You only live once, try as much as possible. Nothing wrong with trying new amps, even if you're losing a little on the transactions. You want it, go get it.

Give it some time. Don't play it for a month and see if you still feel that way. If so, dump and run.

How about changing things up a bit? Like adding an EQ in the loop or lowering the gain and using a pedal out front? I have 3 main amps that I rotate through...Cameron CCV, Cameron Aldrich modded Marshall and a Mesa Mark 2C++. I tend to go between them on a weekly basis, then when I look for something different, I'll slap an EQ in the loop or, what I've been doing lately, is to run 2 amps together through different cabinets. Totally different sound and feel.

Fickle. Quit being fickle and focus on the music and how the guitar fits into the team effort.

No need replying about how you already are.

Hey Bob Savage. I guess you can't help making dick comments no matter which forum you're on huh?

I went through this a few years ago. I purchased another amp of the same make/model as the one I regretted selling. I eventually sold it for exactly the same reason. This happened more than once (once with an amp, once with a guitar). The second time I decided that I would never buy an item I have previously sold (exception would be if I involuntarily sold it due to needing $) because I'd always find out that there was a reason I sold it the first time around.

Taking a break can help if you are just board, but if you find yourself regularly not feeling the vibe for a particular item then it probably isn't a keeper.

Someday, you'll thank me for my honesty.
