Thanks again for the comments and nice words!!
Doubleneck - the playing here is really simple stuff, maybe played quickly but that is the illusion, lol. I always think back to the Paul Gilbert comment he makes in one of his earlier videos about when you take something simple and start adding all the little things like dynamics, accents, flair, etc, it becomes something more than it really is. In the first clip I did get a little tech-y sounding with a couple cheesy backwards swept arppegios (spelling?) and a modal scale or two, but honestly, it was mostly blind (no clue or knowledge or intended "theory playing") wanking. The second clip is even simpler, mostly pentatonic jibberish (but again, add a rake here, a whammy dip and jiggle there, tapped note over there, etc, and it sounds more elaborate than it truly is).
quinnethan - both slices are 1st gear, od 2, gain full. In both clips all the leads are with the bb preamp on (vol full, gain off), any/all chords have the bb off. I guess the clips do prove one thing if anything...the Quick Rods are not as difficult to solo with as some detractors wish, because with just a little boost, even the lowest gain gear on these heads plays like butter with the right variables. The other settings were, first clip: pez 4 o'clock, bass 10 o'clock, mid noon, treble 11 o'clock. The second/better clip: prez noon, bass 10 o'clock, mid noon, treb 1 o'clock. Remember though, you're hearing it after passing through a Heritage Greenback mic'd with an sm57 and a v30 mic'd with
an e906 (I know everyone and their bro likes the small blocks, that's why I'm NOT using them, lol), so YMMV.
I'm liking the tone in the second clip the more I hear it...REALLY glad I started this thread and got the input I did. Thanks again, all.
