Ok... flame time... I don't use anything in front of my QR--IMHO that amp has all the gain and tone I need. For those that like to use either BB or 808 in front of the QR, what are you trying to accomplish by using a pedal in front? Are doing something like using 1st Gear and boosting? Or is it just a tonal preference? Really looking to understand why some think it's necessary to put a pedal in front of the QR.

Thanks!

For me it's a tonal preference. The QR is a very dynamic and clear-sounding amp. Sometimes I don't use a boost, sometimes I do, it depends on my mood. My favorite tone with the QR is a lower gain then hit with OD808. What that does is adds a bit of saturation and grind. It's just a different feel than say OD2, no better or worse, just difference.

I generally run OD 1 with the gain around 11:00.

i'm right with Race on this one.....my QR sounds absolutely killer dry. any gear, any amount of gain, any volume. but..........if i had a good OD pedal, i would probably fiddle with it, and find something killer i liked too. tone is subjective for sure!

For me, it's not about altering the already amazing tone (that's why I was tickled to find how well the BB kept things in tact, sweetness in, sweetness out...and I kinda think the clips prove it, no real significant tone difference yet more playability). A good clean boost pedal just adds a little more playability and flexibility, like adding an extra stage or two to your amp, because as Splawn owners know, you gots 3 gears with two OD's each, but, if you prefer say 1st gear only (as it does sound different from the others), then you're down to just OD 1 or 2 and whatever gain levels you like...the pedal gives you a couple more options back on top of that. I personally only use the pedal for leads (as well as a dash of delay), it gives me that little extra grease, and I need it - I consider myself to have 'decent' chops and gear one, OD 2, even cranked up still has me fighting things a little when I get up higher on the neck (down low always seems like gravy, even with low gain). It is all subjective, yes! :)

sounds good on my monitors... possibly a touch sparse on the low end, but as it is now, it'd sit nicely in a mix.

It's just another variation or flavor of tone. To me, OD 2 sounds like a clean boost. A lot of folks love clean boosts with their amps. I'm not one of them. It's just a personal preference. I've played the QR both ways.

IMO that sounds SO good that 99+% of people would say it totally rocked.
The ones who don't...well fukem. Awesome playing!
