How long before you know if you really like something?

Gotten less picky about guitars the last few years, but I still know almost right away.

Amps take longer but if it’s saturated/thick enough that’s really all I need.

At least 6 months, usually longer. I know if I hate something pretty much immediately, but knowing if I love something vs like it takes a lot more time.

It’s a weird question for me because while I have my favourite stuff, I can also make damn near anything work. Marshall, Mesa, Soldano, Peavey, Fender, Vox. Whatever. Doesn’t matter. Currently doing a Suhr Badger 30 and some pedals and really enjoying it, but I’m sure one day I’ll change it for something else.

I think a second important question needs to be asked, and that is how long do honeymoon periods last for a piece of gear you fell in love with immediately?
If something hits the mark right from the start, it doesn’t change for me later on. That’s not to say that I don’t do stuff like swap pickups in guitars or try different speakers with amps, but that’s just trying to make a good thing even better.... or sometimes a little different.

Alot of times if i do a trade or sell something its not that i don't "like it" as much as i wanna try something different.

I knew I didn't like anal right away. (shifts uncomfortably in my chair as I type)
