Interested to know how loud people play at home?

I've always played really loud... 100 waters mostly, at over 100 db. Everything just sounds better that way.

I usually play for no more than 30 minutes at that volume, because I'm concerned about hearing damage.

I can't help it. I'm totally addicted to that
eargasm you get from loud rock guitar.

How bout you all?

I do too. Louder then I should anyway!! I'm sure my neighbors agree with that!!!! :D

I don't play loud really....only when tracking....then I let that bitch roar

TV/basement levels for me. No reason to be any louder at home.

I usually play with 50 W marshalls on about half. I will use my guitar volume to clean it up and sometimes turn it all the way down if I am have trouble with something while practicing till I can get it right. A lot of players miss out on the guitar/loud amp interaction and it affects their playing negatively.

I usually don't play too loud at home...that's what I have a band for.

I go all over the place. From unplugged in front of the tv to crushing volume down in the basement. Most often it's about loud tv levels.

I use 'Hearo's' the ported ear plugs that let some sound in, a little better than the plugs when jamming. With an SLO, it does sound good and loud levels, but it really gets good at 3.5 to 4.5 on the MV. That is just straight up loud. My other amp is louder than the SLO, a Rivera Knuck Tre, 120W. It really rips up loud. I like to play them in stereo so it gets very very very loud.

To help with this sitch, I picked up a little Zinky Velvet 25W amp. That thing is a little beast! And it gets hot and cranked sounding at more reasonable levels. But it is still quite loud. Still use ear plugs. Don't want the ringing in my ears to continue getting worse.

If you play loud, use ear plugs. As time goes by the damage starts to show. There is no fixing it.

At home I play at TV volumes most of the time. My TV can get pretty loud. ..... besides who the hell plays at home ?

It's so true. One thing that I do is crank up the amp, set up a mic, and monitor through my DAW using sound isolation headphones. Sometimes I go your route though. It's so funny how non-musical folk perceive this ritual.

Bystander: Don't practice so loud you are going to get hearing damage.
Musician: Oh don't worry, I wear earplugs.
Bystander: So why do you play so loud?
Musician: Because it sounds better...

I use to play my Marshalls on 10.... and suffered the hearing damage. Nowadays, I mostly play at a little over TV volume. I only open up the amp once in a great while ;)
+1

at home? As quiet as possible...
on stage? When it's a guitar centric thing ...loud as hell, when it's about the vocals I chill...

We practice in my basement. So, guess we play at band volume. Drummer is coming through PA so I am pretty loud to keep up. I usually don't turn down, even when playing by myself. Tube amps sound like shit a bedroom levels. My neighbors don't give a fuck or don't have the balls to tell me to turn down.

I <3 my tube amps, and crank them whenever I play them, regardless what I'm doing. Band practice is probably when I get the loudest though. My neighbors have yet to complain or say anything about me playing loud at home, and I've been cranking tube amps for a little over a year now

However, with my church gig, the lady in charge of the sound board always makes me turn down to stupid levels, and tends to keep my levels (and all the instruments for that matter, and turns the vocals way up) down too :gethim:

I sleep on the couch at our drummer's house/practice space in the middle of the smoky mountains. I get to spend every morning cranking amplifiers to impossibly loud volumes, and every night drunk and blindly shooting shotguns in the back yard. It's the good life.

at home? quietly....
at rehearsal? LOUD AS FUCK, my drummer is a retard when playing, stupidly loud.
at gigs, the best volume for the mix, at least I try to keep it within reason.

I rarely ever plug in at home. I practice unplugged most of the time.

I get enough loud guitar at band rehearsals and gigs.

I practice unplugged a lot, but lately I've been cranking my recto in the bedroom, shutting the door and standing in the hallway.  Poor man's iso cab.
