How to darken/remove shrill from my setup?

Turn up the volume and get the amp compression going. It should soften the gighs and add more girth.

Try going just the guitar into the amp and add each component until you hear what you don't like.

Absolutely start here. Get that base tone dialed in before you worry about anything else. Then start systematically adding other components back into the signal path.

What sounds great at band volumes sounds like shit at bedroom volumes.. Dull as a turd.
The flipside is what sounds great at bedroom volume will sandblast your ears at band volumes.
Our ears hear mids less at lower volumes.

I remember being young and cranking up my ADA MP-1 Rack when the parental units were out. It was so fucking bright and it didn't make sense why..
Redial it at loud volume..

Hey guys. Here is mysetup:

Guitar -> Pedal Tuner -> Compressor (only for cleans) -> Boss Super Overdrive (only for solos) -> ADA MP-1 -> TC Electronics G-Major -> Marshal EL84 20/20 valve power amp -> Marshal 1936V 2x12

My main issue is the top end shrill is driving me nuts. It was considerably worse when I was using my Marshal JMP-1 so swapped it out with my ADA MP-1 and got it closer to how I'd like it. I even ran a rack equaliser after the pre-amp to tame it, but I couldn't remove the shrill fully without just wrecking the tone and dynamics. I tried an EQ pedal in the loop without much luck.

My guess is it's likely the speakers, but I'd like to avoid buying another 2x12 if possible (wishfull thinking!)
Have you tried using the tone knob on the guitar?
