How to set-up a W/D/W rig (Roland SDE-3000)?

I was just wondering how to go about setting up a W/D/W rig with two SDE3000s, ISO Box, and the Matrix GT1000FX with two different cab ohms? I believe the Matrix GT1000FX is designed to handle cabs with different ohms. I am already running W/D with a 4X12 and a 2X12, but have an extra 2X12 cab that is just sitting there collecting dust.

You need something to split the signal from the ISO box to feed both delays, and from there the outputs from the delays into each side of the Matrix.

How do I do that? What gizmo I need to buy now?

Anything with a buffer will do, you can even use a stereo out chorus or delay if you have something lying around. Ideally something like a Lehle P-Split II.

Your issue is that the Roland SDE-3000s are not stereo... The Matrix will handle the different cabs, but you will have drastically different output (left vs right) depending on the cabs you use. You'll just need to balance the volumes...

You could do something similar to what I do. Take the ISO box line out to a stereo effect (I use the Boss SE-70) which can have the effects bypassed and now you have stereo outs you can run to the delays...

Here is how I do it with all my amps:

I have the line outs (from every amp through the Egnater amp switchers 4 independent adjustable line outs) going to the Boss SE-70 (which is usually just splitting the signal and not adding effects) into two SDE-3000s (one set for 250ms delay, one set for 500ms delay - both have a bit of modulation and dry signal), into the Matrix GT800FX power amp, into the left and right cabs. Center cab is powered by whatever amp is on dry from the amp speaker outs. The El Capistan is in the rack, but I have it in the loop of the Cherry Bomb. That way, I can demonstrate the effects loop if someone wants to hear it...

Amps from Left to Right:

1.) Brown Note D'Lite (Dumble clone)
2.) Custom Cameron "Apocalypse"
3.) Cameron Aldrich Mod
4.) Henning Cherry Bomb
5.) Henning PlexRod 100
6.) Cameron Hi/Low Gain Jose Mod

Steve,

Thanks!!! I just got rid of my Chandle Digital Echo, which is Stereo. :lol: :LOL: :lol: :LOL: :lol: :LOL: :doh: :doh: :doh: What else can I use as a splitter (inexpensive) for the ISO box? I will also need a splitter for the CCV when it comes in since it has a line out.

Hi Steve, Im late to all this modded everything.. what is the Cameron Apocalypse?

Can I ask, what modulation settings do you run with the SDE3000, I just bought a second one and was wondering what the deal is with piggybacking 2 of these, what does that do for you, is it better than running two in stereo?

It's a one off mod that Mark did to a gutted chassis. Pretty cool sounding... I had the head case and panels made and made up the Cameron Apocalypse name...

I run my Rolands in stereo against a completely dry cab straight from the amp in the center for a W/D/W setup. The left one is set:

TIME=500, FEEDBACK=11, OUT=30, RATE=40, DEPTH=08

The right one is set:

TIME=250, FEEDBACK=11, OUT=30, RATE=40, DEPTH=08

I use the MIX outputs of both Roland's. One of the keys with these units to get them sounding great is to use the -20dbm setting and adjust the input gain so that the signal is well into the red when playing.

Not sure what you mean by "piggybacking 2 of these"?

Thanks for the quick answer Steve, there is an inverted output on the back of the sde3000, and some mention of using that for??? I don't have the manual with me and can't recall if it said anything further about it, was wondering if you had tried that setting..

I have two SDE3000s and I don't see any "inverted output" on the back of them. Mine have Delay and Mixed outputs only and I use Mixed...

In the manual, it says, External CV input Jack, Inverted CV Output Jack-inverted LFO CV is output. When the two SDE3000's are simultaneously in use, their modulation signals can be synchronized by using this jack. No idea if this would be useful for anything. I just recalled reading about this.

On the back of mine it has this jack, I just cant figure out how to post a pic, I guess it has to be hosted?

Boss SE 70 or the SE50 is cheaper but has most of the same effects, but not available all at once. The SE50 is a good budget unit for this application, they cost around 100 bucks or less. They also have a great noise gate if you have amp hiss...

Yeah, I have those as well, but those are not actual outputs, I don't use any of that stuff...
