I finally broke down and got EZDrummer3

Speaking of drums Simon Phillips is getting some incredible drum tones on his music these days. been a fan of his forever and this master class interview should be mandatory for all young aspiring drummers and how to get the best sounds out of the instrument.

Sounds pretty good how long have you been drumming for?

About 15 years now. Kind of disappointing, given that there are much younger people doing so much more on YT and social media. I actually started because I couldn't find a drummer/they'd ghost me.

Even hired a guy once who never showed up after accepting the money (note to self, payment comes after.

I had left a bunch of gear at that guy's jampad and had to hunt him down to collect it. All of it was in pieces, amp blown up, even a stand was broken in half. Don't know what I did to deserve that, but it seems par for the course that I've been on for all these years. Karma's a b*tch though, and I always collect.

Simon's been at the top of his game since the '70s.

I first heard him on Stanley Clarke's Rocks, Pebbles and Sand. He's played for just about everybody, like Phil Manzanera's 801, Jeff Beck, Big Country, Gary Moore, Michael Schenker, Bernie Marsden, Jon Lord, Nik Kershaw, Mike Oldfield, Judas Priest, Mike Rutherford, Tears for Fears, 10cc, the Chemical Brothers, Pete Townshend, the Who, Hiromi Uehara, Toto and so on.

He's been a keen engineer, producer and mastering engineer for eons so it should come as no surprise to anyone that he knows how to get fantastic-and-appropriate drum sounds.

Dude rocks big-time.

Like the saying goes necessity is the mother of invention 😄. You had to put your head down in the pig bin and learned how to drum yourself, and I respect the hell out of that!

Thank you. Hah, I've never heard the term "pig bin", you mean "pig trough" of course.

Drumming is easy if you've got rhythm, I think. But there are so many of the finer nuances that I can't grasp, like blast beats or ghost notes.

Once broke up with a girl cause she advised me to take lessons and it led to a flare up, haha
