You'd have to play them for yourself. Everyone has their own taste, I've heard modded Marshalls that just sound to hard and cold for my taste but another guy would love it. I've only heard mp3's of Fortin's stuff and they sound great, I own a few Friedman amps. Dave's mods sound beautiful, my '71 sounds insane. You really need to play some if you can and see what suits your playing. IMO you can't make a call like this based on peoples opinions, you gotta sling a guitar and feel them.

I just stood in front of 2 PT100's about 2 hours ago, I was at sound check at Tone Merchants with Andy Wood and Pete Thorn, I would say a PT100 is not a modded Marshall sound at all. Very different tone and feel, way more compressed and covered sounding.
Well said James. Its like when I got my Wizard MC, it was too loud and too bright so I bought a Wizard Metal. I was told after I bought it that the Metal was even brighter than the MC, but I loved the amp right away and could not bound with the MC, so......
BTW the Fortin stuff

I found a pic of a guy who ordered a Cameron 3 years ago.

Funny stuff

I've only been able to listen to clips of each of the modded Marshalls.
The Friedman Marshall clips are insane, exactly the tones I'm looking for.
The Fortin clips sound heavier, maybe a little too "METAL" for me.
The PT100 also sounds incredible. Keep in mind, I can only base these opinions from clips.

My concerns:
I play in 2 diff. bands, one doing classic rock covers and the other doing newer radio rock covers. I need a clean channel -----------PT100 wins here but is expensive w/ no used ones around

The modded Marshall--------- I already have amps that I can send to be modded, so its less expensive. But it would require taking in a second head to each gig, and switching between the 2 (I have an Axess head switcher) so I have 1 extra trip to the truck, for setup and teardown

Still up in the air?????????????????/

Played Pete Thorn's own PT100 after the Tone Merchant's clinic...and damn...that fucker ripped me a new one....I think I still have a major PT100 hard on....nearly 24 hours later. Is there a number I should call to help take care of that!!! HAHAHA :)

Hands down I'd get a PT100 over anything else in this list. A Egnater Mod50 w/ a SL2X module is another killer choice!!!!

I played one about 3 weeks ago at Cosmo Music when G. Govan was here for a clinic. Sounded like James' description to me. I brought my Soldano Avenger with the DeYoung OT which I got that day from UPS, just to see how it stacked up to some of their other amps and a coulpe of the guys that work at Cosmo (they don't carry Soldano) were floored how good it sounded. Wiped the floor with the PT 100 and EVH III.

"Covered sounding" is exactly how one of them decribed the other amps compared to my Avenger. I was double happy leaving that clinic; G.Govan was amazing to watch live and my amp is killer!

Yeah....agreed brother! All of the PT100 clips I've heard definitely have that compressed/blanket over the speakers tone. That Avenger that you have now is truly killer though

Nice, you got an Avenger with the Deyoung tranny? I bet that kills. Always wanted to demo an Avenger, but haven't had the luck of finding one. Does yours have a loop? Ever compare it to an SLO? I used to own of those, but ended up selling it for a couple reasons...I was thinking a long while about the Avenger as the solution to the nitpicks I had.
