I did use two boosts. But now i just crank the gain on the TS808HWV2. Very nice pedal.

I do that also. I find using a single boost with a ton of volume tends to come out more smooth, where using 2 boosts with lower settings comes out more aggressive.

Thank you for these vids...Those Audette R/T mod Marshalls sound REALLY good to my ears...Love how rough around the edges those high gain tones are starting around 1:00:

While Audette I guess put out some substandard builds the RT mod itself is solid great sounding mod and exactly like the RT mod videos, I've been running a split cathode RT mod with some personal tweaks in my 72 50 watter and I love it and gets closest to my 68 plexi built to SL68 specs.

I guess Audette did figure out how to utilize a tube driven loop in some of his builds but even Friedman and Suhr preferred to leave the loop out of their designs when they used the Lar/Mar PPIMV MKII. I can get my Cameron Jose dialed in to a plexi but it still sounds like a Jose IMHO, by comparison the RT mod is closer to my 68 Plexi but with more gain.

I'd have to price them out ..... but ball park would be 1500 on the JEL/800 .... and at least 2500 for a Cali...

Check out the Brunetti Mercury one. It can change gain wise but is going to get you the best clean up of any of the amps listed

What Pedals do you have?

I have a whole shelf of pedals since I build tons of them, but some of my favorite combos with the 2203 clone is something more aggressive into something smoother with more EQ. A few of my favorite combos have been the SD-1 into a Bad Monkey, or Precision Drive into the MXR CBAMOD.

Other than Wizard and Ceriatone I've had most of the amps recommended here and I say MGL. Morris cool AF too. I don't like how Friedman does Marshall but I haven't played the Jose

I agree, I don't like how Friedman usually does Marshall. Too polite, too polished, too vanilla. But the Jose isn't like any other Friedman I've played. With the mods turned off, it's very similar to my 1959SLP and sounds better, to me.

OK...I'm a little surprised how few guys here have one, from the clips / vids they (particularly the Chup and Yeti) sound pretty killer

Nothing against them—from what I can tell they are well put together. I feel they are cheaper copies of classic amps and I’d rather get the ‘real thing’ rather than wonder if I’m missing something, even if it’s the ‘last 5%’. Plus, the used ones I’ve seen for sale locally are up in the $1500 range. If I saw an interesting clean head locally for around a grand I’d grab it.

I understand this perspective as well...There have been a few Marshall 1987X 50 Watt Heads listed around $1,700 locally. Thinking about grabbing one and having it modded...Like the the Audette R/T mod (video I posted earlier this week).

Any 4 input Non Master Volume Marshall or Marshall clone amp PCB or turret board construction but turret boards are easier to maintain down the road..

The Friedman Jose was a fantastic amp for sure. My personal favorite is a MOAB+ modded Marshall from Ground Zero. Incredible amp that can hit pretty much any Marshall tone you can dream of.

The amount of versatility for sure. The MOAB lets you select between a handful of different diodes and also control how much of that diode is blended into the circuit so you can control the amount of compression. The added tightness and NFB knobs are also a great addition. My MOAB also has his clean channel mod added which is super nice. I loved the Jose, but I feel I can get that same tone plus many many more out of the MOAB
