When he has Hot....Eddie was on FIRE!
No one could touch him.

SO true!
Ever seen the Fresno footage from '78? Kinda crappy quality-wise, but even still OMG...he is KILLING, and his sound is unreal!!!

I can't just only say that Ed is the greatest rock n roll guitar player ever, but as a complete musican and his creative approach to writing...no one could touch him IMO.

Exactly! Randy IMHO was much more directly derivative of other players before him than Eddie was. Eddie was much more unique.

I've seen that video before and it is awesome. Ed was killing it back then but that guy is gone.

I was definitely digging Lynch WAAAAAAAAY more than EVH back in the 80's....
what was Eddie doing? "Love walks in"???

Well lets be fair, Diver Down, Fair Warning and 1984 were all 80's records with Dave. There's plenty of awe inspiring playing on 5150 and OU812 as well. Only mentioning Love walks in is like saying all Nuno Bettencourt ever did was More than words.

Don't forget about Women and Children First. +1 on the Nuno comparison. Eddie's riffs on the songs Summer Nights, Get Up and 5150 where pretty nice.

I know....I love Eddie.
But George Lynch was ruling for me back in the 80's! ;)

Eddie is one of those guys that is regarded as THE ONE . only once in awhile is there a guy who just kills and reaches that legend status, just like CLAPTON,PAGE,RANDY,HENDRIX,SRV,GILMORE. Lynch will never reach that legend status, even though the guy just rips. to bad. as for my favorite EVH can do no wrong, except for VHlll, dont really like that one to much.

I think that Lynch was one of the VERY FEW that did maintain somewhat of a GUITAR GOD status from the 80's outside of EVH.

Yeah, I was a big Lynch fan back in the day too. Although lately I've been having serious GAS for one of these:

I've wanted one since I was a kid. I just bought the wife a new bad ass camera so now it's my turn for a new toy!

True, and that guy has never really rested on his laurels, y'know? He's (still) always striving to improve, which is admirable.

Nice guy, too - but what cracks me up is watching interviews with him: In one breath, he'll say "I don't know theory", and then he'll say "Right here I'm throwing in the flat 7th degree of the scale..." :D

Always thought the J. Frog guitar was cool...what did he call the original? It had some silly name like "Mom" or something...
A friend of mine owns another one of the original J. Frogs (similar to the one posted above but with a real glass eye - looks trippy) that was apparently also owned by Lynch for 5 minutes in the late 80s/early 90s, it has what is purportedly a prototype of the Screamin' Demon in it...I'll ask if it's OK to post a pic of it.
