I think its time to go for it. I love the Competition, and I think I'll hang on to the 900 Studio while I wait.. I love the Competition, its in my top 2-3 amps ever.

Yes, the mini Comp with the added switches is a beast. Go for it!

It does seem to be the amp that you circle back to in your comments. As Taco Bell says, "Live Mas"

Killer amp! I owned one. I still have a Streetrod combo and the big boy Quickrod rig...

Do it!

Always been intrigued by the Street Rod combo. Does Scott still build them? They seem to be hard to find. Do they stay pretty tight with the open back? My 3rd Power Kitchen Sink 1x12 combo has an open back and stays really tight. Curious to hear your thoughts.

Scott no longer builds them. Yes, they stay tight. It is really loud too, for 40 watts.

I think I bought a Competition from you some years ago. That was actually the second one I’ve owned. It is a great amp. The mini is even more appealing. Do you know if everything but the size is the same?

I’ve got a Competition in the mini headshell. The chassis is standard size even though they call it the mini , but the smaller headshell is really convenient. When I bought it I came to find out it originally belonged to @Fusionbear. I owned six Splawns over the years , currently have two and this current Competition that I have is my favorite of the bunch. It’s pretty loud if needed but with the volume loop that Scott installs I’ve got it at pretty manageable volumes in the house, even though I still play fairly loud in the house when I can . I had it cranked up yesterday , thru greenbacks, and it sounded glorious
Edit-I see you’re pretty well versed with the competition and the Splawn amp line lol . Ah well

I’m almost positive just the headshell is smaller . I’ve got a Super Sport that I got in 2012 with the standard size headshell and I got the mini headshell for it a few years ago. The chassis fits it perfectly

The only thing I will toss in here is to at least consider the 50 Watt Super-Sport. Not better than the Comp - just different. The SS has a dedicated 'Clean' channel that shares EQ with the gain channel. The trade-off is that the Gain channel on the SS only switches between Gears 1 & 2 with OD 1 & 2. You do not have the 3rd Gear option on the SS like you have with the Competition. I basically live on 1st Gear of my current QR and cannot imagine ever needing more gain or low end than 2nd Gear, OD-2. So for me, it would be worth not having 3rd Gear in order to have a true 'Clean' channel on the smaller head format. But for folks who love Nitro Territory, you can easily get there with 3rd Gear on the Competition, OD-2, 'New' voicing and Mids cut.

Same amp but options for new/old and mid cut switching. Little power house.

Yep, I did sell you one! Yes, the Mini is identical. But, I talked to them, had it in my cart, and couldn't do it.. They're $1900 now. It's a great amp, but $1900 is a bit steep. I'm undecided... The 900 Studio I have is more than adequate, so I'll keep watching the used market..

Yup, Scott must have JUST increased it from $1800 to $1900; I was on the website in the last 7-10 and it was definitely still $1800.

I've got a 2015 Loaded Mini Comp, 19" headshell, and it smokes. I had a well-known 100w boutique brand as the same time and the Splawn just cut a bit better and was nearly as full in the punch and thickness...at 50w.

Recently, I've had other amps come and go and at times want to change some things in the Splawn, so i recently tried a 10-band eq in the loop of the Splawn and was able to tweak what I like and don't.

I'll put it this way... My wife knows my amps pretty well; she loves the Ground Zero Hellion. She's not heard me play the Splawn in a while. Last week was the first time I opened up the Comp in a while (Front volume at 9:00) and she was upstairs. After playing it for 5 minutes she came runnding down and said, "WTF are you playing, did you buy a new amp and not tell me??" ...She looked and saw the Splawn was on and just gave me a nod of approval and went back upstairs. Later that night she said how badass it sounded and asked why I didn't play it at gigs...I play the GZ mostly as it's my fave, but the Comp is just a beast.

I think the loaded Comp, mini headshell if that's your thing, at $1900 is great value compared to many other amps new on the market that are 2+ times the price; gotta factor that in.

Scott sold me one at the old price, I ordered it this AM. He's even going to try to do 3-4 weeks. It's expensive, but it's one of my favorite amps of all time, and the mini will sit nicely on top of my 2 Friedman 1x12's for a little stack.

Splawns are awesome. Had a Quickrod 100. Always tempted to get a Supersport 50 mini.
