Cory...seriously...go check out a Spider Jam...possibly the best $400 I ever spent...

I've had a TON of fun with that thing

Thanks Josh.. I have looked into a bit.. seems pretty fun and cool... I will give it some more listens and review. I'm hoping to grab something today if it works out. Happy Holidays

I use that yamaha thr10 and it is a great practice / home noodling setup. Definitely download the editor for it though as there are a lot more tweaks in it then on the unit itself.

Im starting to dig that Yamaha thr10  Sounds great.

bump... 11 rack vs pod hd500 vs yamaha thr10. I think that's what Im looking at now.

I've owned the 11R and it's a nice modeler with a lot of functionality and easy to use UI. At some point when I stop gigging, I'd be tempted to own another one, but I don't do any home recording and didn't really enjoy it in my live rig so I ended up trading it away.

For home practice, I'd look at the Roland Cubes. The amp that gets the most play at my house is the micro cube. Better than expected high gain tones, built in FX and battery powered if that's something you'd want/need.

Considering the lack of support for the 11R, I'd go Pod HD. The new amp models are great. Nothing not to like. I did like the 11R though. That said, the Pod does more, has more options, and can be had for less, and...it's still supported.

I wouldn't rule out a little JMP-1 rig either.

I agree that the HD500 is a lot of bang for the buck. The looper and MP3 input and all that stuff, you can have a lot of fun with that unit. I have one and an Axe-FX Standard. I still like playing the PODHD a lot just because it is fun.

Ive been pleased with my 11 rack so far. I like it much better than the line 6 hd stuff for the tones you like. Just my .02

Update.. whatever I get will be running into a power amp(ART-SLA2) and out to 2x12's..

Eleven Rack vs HD500 vs ?????? a preamp

or do I stick with my cheap ass, old digitech gnx1   ..which im currently using for practice and noodlling. God help me :D

I think most people do it the wrong way, 12inch speaker will not be usable at lower home levels, burning money, even 11rack or Axe Fx are too expensive. (they are overpriced software dongles)
Analogue:
Get a fender (pre 80ties princeton/tweed) (or copy) an old used engl 620 preamp or Carl Martin Plexitone Pedal, there you go, you have the best clean sounds (possible) and touch sensitivity to record, killing every shitty mesa/modern multi channel crap amp and a open! distortion sound at very low volume with quite a cool feeling, not this annoying nasally Mesa 80ties santana/dream theater/Carlton mess (if you like these 3 cheesy sounds simply turn the treble blend on your Guitar down.

Digital:
Get Amplitube Slash silver marshall amp, perhaps some Redwirez Impulse speakers, the rodenberg 728 an A Designs Reddi or cheaper Radial DI, RME AIO, Reaper and record and play with almost no latency. If you are into nasally Dokken (Under Lock and Key) the Steeler Amp inside Scuffham could be appropriate, it has that vibe.

If you buy used absolutely (analogue items) no!!! value degradation, two no hype and smart solutions.

(Read your guitar heroes, my recommendation could be a tiny bit gain underpowered, not much...a bit, you have to play better/cleaner/stronger to compensate this ;-))

To cut down (digital way) costs, use only RME Babyface and omit Rodenberg=> A Design Reddi or Radial or use M-Audio PCI with DI, to get a similar latency (around 3-4ms) equal to 11rack or Axe FX

There is so much blah about improving latency, it has nothing! to do with a brand new system/mac, fast processor, 64 bit, ram, blah blah, it only depends on the the sound interface, I measured it. You can use 8 year old pc computer hardware with xp =>absolutely no! latency difference to the fastest system around today.

The POD HD is great for home use and very usable for live use. I have the HD 400. I set up a few banks of patches tweaked for my DAW, a few banks tweaked for running direct to a power amp and a few setup for effects only running in the loop for gigs. Plus you get the looper, tuner, CD/Ipod input. It's pretty ridiculous what you get for the money.

I've heard good things about the Yamaha THR... Peavey Vypyr is interesting as well.

This is tougher than I thought :D ... the thr10 seems cool but not sure if it will be 'playable' enuf for me. Im really torn between the HD500 and Eleven Rack right now. Could run either one into my ART-SLA2 power amp then out to my 2x12.. be damn good for my practicing.. which is what I will utilize it for. Was hoping to have something en route already but want to make sure it's what I need. They are easy to find so can always snag one up pretty quick. Cheers and Happy Holidays

Line 6 is constantly coming out with updates. I have the HD pod pro rack and it hangs with my Axe II. I preferred it over the 11 rack. The HD500 has all the same features as the HD pro but in a pedal board

The 11R is great if you are happy with what is in the box. I had one and really enjoyed it. Very easy to use and intuitive. But....there won't be anything new or updated for it. If you are happy with that, then you are good to go. You should be able to get one of those at a great priced used. Make sure it has the expansion pack with it for maximum fun! The HD stuff seems to be nice as well and there is the potential there for some updates which is always good. Tough decision! You can use either of those into your ART power amp and into a cab. You'll have to turn off the emulation though.

The plexi amp and tape delay are great in the 11 rack. I also feel they are great in the HD. Just my .02 :)
