If you had to pick one?? Mesa Mark III or Marshall DSL-100H

How so? I played through a JCM2000 DSL for a week on tour, then my DSL100H right when I came back. Same basic tones, but I like the updates on the DSL100H over the JCM2000. I mean, so each their own, but if you get rid of the junk tubes in the DSL100H and get some quality glass in there, it really makes them shine.

That's all that matters right there.

OP asked a simple question, I gave a simple answer.

No I get that, but you said the "H" and not DSL in general. I'm just assuming you meant the newer revision of the DSL - the DSL100H. I'm asking why you believe that is an abomination over the JCM2000 DSL.
 
I don't even like the regular DSL's. The H is an abomination in it's own right. New Marshalls are why I now play a Mark V and a Stiletto. The chinese BadCat 50H I have craps all over the DSLH's I've played. So I know it's not because the H is Asian made. Its a fizzy, inarticulate mess.
 
Well, I had narrowed my search down to these two amps. I've played both, owned a Mesa Mark III simulclass (red stripe) for years. Loved it, but then sold it a couple years ago to pay some debts.... really miss that one. Right now I'm just jamming through my solid state Randall heads which I do really like... they are awesome for what they do, but I miss that tube crunch sometimes.

Now I'm looking to get another amp and i'm thinking? get another Mark III? or get something I have never owned??? The DSL? I've played a few dsl's over the years... played a couple gigs with one (was a backline), but have never owned and spent any real time with one to get to know all of what it is capable of?? Maybe I should just get what I know i will REALLY like, the Mark III. Hey?

What I REALLY want is a Mark V, and i've been thinking about getting one for a couple months now, but It's a little out of my price range right now. I'd have to save for a few months on my shitty Janitor's wage and I'm impatient... and do I really need all that versatility?? Nope, but it's nice to know you got nearly every sound you will ever likely need under the hood, ya know?
 
How can you say the new DSL is an abomination? That's just silly. Every clip i've heard of them sounds great. It has the resonance pot, which was just a button on the original. It's priced very well. Gary Holt is using them in Slayer now and he always has fantastic tone.
Plus, the people i've talked to that have owned both the new and old say the new one has the tone of the original but has a more controllable low end because of that resonance control.

Well looks like you have a winner already so why ask us? All you got was "silly" opinions it seems. If you think the H will lift your skirt then go for it. I have nothing more to say about it.
 
Weren't you the guy that said Marks all sound SS anyway, or was that another Anomaly on another board?

If it was you, get the DSL...what's the point in getting a tube amp to dial in SS tones anyway?
 
i would play one if that's all i had. i would rather have a line 6 flextone than a dsl.
 
My two amps right now are a purple stripe Mark III combo and a 50 watt DSL w/4x12. After gigging both, I would probably stick with the Mark III. That being said I really like the Green channel on the DSL. It sounds really good boosted.

I agree. I played the new H one's and thought they sounded really, really,.....not good.
 
Seriously this shouldn't even be a discussion. get the MK III
 
DSLs are good enough for Beck, Sambora, Moore (Gary and Vinnie), Nuno, etc so i don't think they could be all THAT bad.

The older DSL's I thought were good. I played a newer DSLH and thought it was garbage.

I own both and my DSL 50 sounds far superior to bring the rock
