I hate to admit it, lol, but I'm from this area, still live here. For me the best rocking times I had in the area in the older days was places such as Stages off 203, Fat Cats that was on 159, Grannys Rocker and the old Pops. Saw some great shows here such as Quiet Riot who played at Stages 2 weeks before Metal Health was released, tickets were $3.95, showing my age here, Sarzo just got done with the Ozzy tour and he tore that place up. Also witnessed Zebra at Fat Cats. The newer Pops isn't as cool to me as the old place, but I had seen Dio there every time he played Pops and that had to be the greatest place to witness the Legend himself R.I.P.
For me I do not dig Eddies Guitars whatsoever, Great gear Yes, but almightly attitudes there from all of the guys who worked there. I spend lots of money on gear, and glad to say Eddies will never see any of it. I walked in there in 2001 to buy a Bogner Uberschall and was so turned off by the way I was treated, that I drove to Indiana 3 weeks later and bought Uberschall #119. Eddies was only 25 minutes from my house, instead I drove over 3 hours to Indiana to a Ma and Pa music store to buy that prized early hand wired Bogner. I'm still playing that head 11 years later, and it has never ever failed me. Sorry Eddies! I will Never forget the way I was talked down to there. I had cash in hand that day too and walked out with the cash and not their Uberschall. I was also treated somewhat bad by the Guitar Exchange in St Charles, kinda same attitude from the owner because he personally knew Van Halen and hung out with him often. Loved the old Guitar Exchange- Anyone here remember when Dan had that place in a little house before he had opened the Big Place/ I mean Big Place too when I say that. Later on Dan and I became friends and I bought a USA Hamer Chapperal Elite from him, and a Red Fender Malmsteen Strat (great guitar). I still have both of them. RIP Dan
Someone here mentioned the band Lye- not sure if they are still around but George if a friend of mine, have not seen him forever, he used to set up my guitars, but I have not seen him in ages. He knew what he was doing, and is a great guitarist
To me the best musical secret I have ever found around St Louis is GOEZ STRINGED INSTRUMENT REPAIR. It is right around the corner from Eddies Guitars. There are 2 guys there, in a small old shop, a no frills little place there. Skip Goez is the owner and Jon Ferber his genius tech. These 2 guys are the absolute Best I have EVER found Anywhere, and I have been to alot of places in my time. Guitars are MY LIFE. I own 40 Electrics at this time, I Had to sell many a ways back to buy my sports car. NO ONE touches my guitars as far as setups except Skip or Jon. If you have never been there, you need to take a guitar there and have it setup. They are the most skilled luthiers IMO that have ever opened a guitar shop in the region. Their attention to every little detail is so far beyond anything anyone else offers. They offer a lifetime setup if you want it, which I have had it done on about 15 of my guitars now, wish I had it on all of them, maybe someday

Seriously give them a try, you can't be disapointed I guarantee it. Look them up! When you get their lifetime setup, you can take your guitar back there anytime, they drop what they are doing and perform magic. I was just there last Tuesday, took them a 1965 Fender Mustang all original, and Jon really outdone himself yet again on that guitar as well as my Ibanez RG1527 7 stringer with Lollar Imperial Low Winds. I have all of mine set up as low as possible, it is just unbelieve able how low action can go, you think you have seen low action? When I show someone who likes low action one of my guitars that has been setup there, that person usually asks for their address or phone number. Please take my word next time you need to get a setup, it is really over the top. They are know for their Vintage Instrument repairs, and their reputation is the buzz. Thank you Skip and Jon.
Other great place in St Louis is Killer Vintage. They have a AMP Repair GOD. His name is Obeid Kahn. Best Tube Amp tech this town has ever seen. Great ripping guitarist as well. You have never ever heard a Strat and Plexi sound so good. His band is called Trixie Delight. No one touches my amps internally except Obeid. Obeid has never touched my Bogner, it has never needed anything, but he did a Metaltronix M1000 I used to own, and I guarantee after he was done working on it that amp head was the best Metaltronix out there. I ended up covering it professionall in red tolex, but had to sell it to buy my car when I needed serious cash. He has also worked on my 04 Diezel Herbert and I will never sell that amp. I play a dual head rig, with a SoundSculpture Switchblade and these 2 amps kill together. PM me if you guys wanna here them live sometime, I will get you some gig info, playing in St Charles in a few weeks.
1 big thing that sucks about St Louis other than the crime/ murder capital of the US, is the music scene WTF. I really wish I lived elsewhere lol The music scene here is the worst.
Enough rambling sorry guys
