Keeping the 5153, sure. :) Dibs when you sell it in 3 months ;)

It's my main gigging amp, I love the way channel 3 cleans up awesome with your guitars volume knob even with loads of gain!

It has the perfect amount of sustain on channels 2 and 3..no gain pedals required!

Again tonight..the blue channel does the VH we all agree. I was pulling off Wildflower and heartbreaker from Pat Benatar. Nailing it on lower gain! Guts and has the top end that sounds right! Channel 3 does the heavy drop D stuff just he way I dig it! I look for it to let me down, it has not. Now all I have to do is find out about some different masters to get it to not take off the minute you go past 1!

HAHA that looks like my old amp :D .... man i miss that thing

I'm selling a new 5150 III 4x12 cab in Ivory if anyone is interested.

Theres something about the 5153's gain channels thats unique...Its not a dry or very natural sounding amp its almost like it has an effect on it all the time..I notice it more with channel 3 because 2 is more open and classic sounding. Its something in the voicing,.....Its like a produced tone right out of the box. I remember loving the first one I tried in GC with the matching cab....Ive been running mine through either my mesa with v30's or my splawn with scumbacks and it sounds good through either cab.

Best amp I have EVER owned! I also own 2 (one at home and one at the band rehearsal place). I run my 5150 III into 2 Mesa 1x12 open back Express cabs. Each has a Celestion Vintage 30 in it. I have a stand that has 3 shelves on it. I put one cab on the bottom shelf (about 6" of the floor), one cab on the second shelf (about 30" of the floor) with a 2" black binder under the cab to angle it up at me, and my 5150 III head goes on the top (shelf) that is about 54" off the floor. I really like the open backs because I have more control over the low end. Previous amps I have owned are: Mesa Studio 22 and 50, Mesa Triaxis and 2:90 power amp, Mesa Roadster 2-12 combo, Mesa Lonestar Special 1-12 combo, Fuchs Overdrive supreme 50 combo. The EVH 5150 III TOTALLY smokes all other my previous amps!!! It is quieter {EVEN IN THE 3rd CHANNEL!) than any of my previous amps. Channel Switching is totally dead quiet (A HUGE problem with all of the Mesa's). The best thing is I can get every tone I need from it!

Signal chain: Tom Anderson Cobra S hardtail guitar > Dunlop 95Q Cry Baby Wah > EVH 5150 III with TC electronics G-Major in the effects loop > 2-1X12 Mesa Express open back cabs with a Celestion Vintage 30 in each.

I could not gel with amp for nothing. The clean was ok. The crunch needed more gain. The red channel had way to much hair on it. Maybe my tubes weren't that great. Maybe it wasn't biased up right. Maybe it just wasn't for me. I'm much happier with the 5150II than I was ever with the 5153.

had to have been the tubes. the 5150 II and 5150 III lead channel are damn near identical minus ~4 parts. the volume design is simpler in the 5150 III as well.

testament runs a 5150 III with a nova delay on about 100ms delay and thats it - great tone and those who have seen them live say it sounded great.

enditol (sp?) lead guitarist runs a 5150 III - his tone is killer heavy.

i like the 5150 III... but i dont like it enough to buy it only because of one of the three channels.

if i had to choose, the 5150 III works great as a grab and go gig amplifier. the tone is great at all volumes up to about 4.5 and then things start to fall apart.....could have been the matching cabinet speakers begging for mercy though - i know they are greenback inspired so maybe it was the low wattage speakers causing nasty distortion? could have been the bias as well. who knows.

overall though the crunch and clean channels didnt tickle my fantasy that much - and i dont need dedicated EQ's for each channel of clean/crunch - so ill pass and keep my 5150 II.

I can understand what you are saying.... I bet you would have liked it more with dif tubes and a bias check (adjustment) .... Channel 2 needs a boost to get there but it can do it... I kinda felt the same way about channel 2 and I still do somewhat.. Its like it just doesnt have the balls for Metal riffing like channel 3 does. After I changed my tubes I brought the bias up and channel 2 got better. It has more gain and balls now, I still like channel 3 a little more for everything.

Did you only use it for jamming at home? I really don't like playing mine at home volumes at all...Using it live is where it comes into it's own..

I did not love the amp until I gigged with it and recorded with it...

You guys are not helping my gas at all lol. I was thinking about trying to trade my stiletto ace for one. The few I played in stores I loved. I spent most of my time on the blue channel.

Dare I say had a talk with Fortin and we might do something to it on the red channel! But man this thing is a monster. You bet cha gotta move some air and not earth shaking air. That is when it wakes up big time!
