Phew...sounds like you need a cocktail and a handful of Xanax or maybe just pull the sharp stick out of your ass.

sounds like you’re a clown with nothing actually to contribute:)

So maybe create a thread for people to talk about that and how you don't like in-room clips. As a matter of fact, we just had a big thread discussing just that. In-Room vs Mic'd. Guess what? Some people preferred In-Room and some people preferred Mic'd. No reason to crap on Peter's thread. He even did us the courtesy of putting 'in-room' in the thread title. How simple. Ignore it.

There are plenty of Mic'd clips out there. The In-room mike technology has really come a long way. Peter used a Rode microphone - which is probably above average for what it does. And like I said, it is a lot faster and a lot easier, especially if you just want to share something quickly or just have some fun. IMO - we could use a bit more fun.

I guess you’re missing my point. It’s not about whether people prefer “in the room” or mic’d, it’s about usefulness. An in the room is essentially just that, absolutely useless. I couldn’t care less about the technology behind in the room clips. It means absolutely nothing to me, and doesn’t show anything of value about an amp. Or does everyone on this board literally just sit in front of their amps at home and not even record at home or use their tools (Amps) to actually create music? Then sure ya, knock yourself out.

It's a 5150 and a Dual Rectifier. They've been out for a while.
If you'd like to hear something new, Bad.Seed has some killer mic'd clips of the 50w 5153 and the new Mesa Badlander.
Those are actual demos too. Unlike this thread. ?

I own both, it wasn’t for me personally, but agreed yes, they’ve been out for a year or two haha! Also that badlander is pure garbage, Jesus, but we will save that for another thread. :)

Im well aware of that... but MY point is, maybe instead of the same old 20 year old threads of “hey check out my useless in the room clip that won’t actually tell you how an amp actually sounds!”, we need to change the narrative on what is important in demoing amps, or “up the bar” so to speak as a whole in the guitar world. There is just so much wrong info on boards like these all over the place, and it’s exhausting: so many “truths” that people believe are true, that stem from places like this, and this is just an extension of that.

these clips aren’t that serious, I totally get it and it’s not meant to be taken as a serious clip. But maybe we should START doing that on a more frequent basis, so we can really help people get the best guitar tones possible with the equipment they have. Really learn how to mic your amp, really learn how those minute differences effect your mix as a whole whether it’s live or in the studio. Learn how all those little differences effect your overall tone and even more so, the inspirational value they bring to your playing: I guarantee many would have a new found appreciation of the gear they DO have and the tones they can actually get out of their gear on their own, and probably wouldn’t be flipping gear and chasing tones nearly as much as we all are guilty of. Justttttt something to think about.

I dunno man, I think this is personal preference....I went on an amp buying binge the last couple months, one of the amps I bought was an Orange Dual Dark. I wanted another Orange to complement it and was having trouble finding clips I liked.

Buddy sent me an in room clip of a TH30 which has been documented extensively with mic'd clips, recordings etc...and it sounded way better to me in his vid and I bought the amp because of it, whereas before I wouldn't have considered it.

To each his own, but if it's something that I haven't owned/tried in person then that scenario can be helpful to me.

this is kind of my point: just because there are mic’d up clips of an amp out there, doesn’t mean they are good, AT ALL. again, had the narrative the last 20 years been pushed how important it is to learn how to mic an amp properly, what to listen for, what should stand out etc, maybe we wouldn’t have such amateur clips on YouTube. Which brings up another point: so many times, a guitarist will listen to a clip and say “ oh that’s wayyy too bright and fizzy”, or “ omg too much bass etc”. When in reality, they have no idea a true point of reference because they aren’t used to listening to solo’d clips outside of a mix. But, I guarentee most would be incredibly shocked at how much high end their favorite tones have if they heard them solo’d. In the high gain world Atleast. This again, would be more beneficial to getting the tones people want faster, because they would have true points of references of what actually works in a mix, and what is needed. Sadly, this kind of environment doesn’t exist, it just is what it is.

I realize not everyone cares what an amp sounds like in a mix, and I mean if you just play in your bedroom then whatever, but some of us use these amps as tools.

Killer tone there, great job Peter! As far as clips go, I find that many of the 'in the room' clips can sound very good to great. When I've recorded something with my phone I do notice it records much brighter than it really is; so I have to really darken it up to get it to sound more legit. On the other hand; some mic recorded clips can sound like straight up ass.
I know it's hard to 'try before you buy' with amps so clips are all we have to go on..which is why I try and read up on opinions of the amp rather than judging a clip.
