Players like Graham, as if there were many, have that ability to not lift there left hand fingers off the board when the finger releases. His finger just releases the string and never really looks like it comes off much.

Really excellent, effortless technique. After the first video, I was hoping to hear him play over some music and the second video showed me what I thought would be the case. Amazing technique, but absolutely nothing to say musically. Just a bunch of disjointed licks strung together with an occasional held/vibrato'd note. Don't get me wrong, I respect the effort and dedication that goes into technique like that (I certainly never had the patience beyond VH stuff), it just leaves me cold when it says nothing beyond, "Look how fast I can move my fingers!"

Personally, I'm done being impressed by people who's only attribute is speed/technique. To me it's like someone who can type really fast - it's a matter of practice/dedication, but anyone so inclined can do it, although some get it faster than others. What impresses me is folks like Guthrie Govan, who have amazing technique, but also write (to me, anyway) great music and play for the music with expression/something to say. Guthrie plays amazingly fast at times (some even accuse him of overdoing it, although I disagree), but fits the technique in a musical context. To me that is truly impressive and what makes the difference compared to all the great "typists" on YouTube...

I agree 100%. I appreciate his dedication to what is basically a flawless technique. But where is the melody, where is the rhythm goodness that goes with it? Play me a song.

I posted this same thing like a year ago, he is such a bad ass player!! Effortless playing, and his lessons are cool. He goes straight to the point and shows you exactly what he is doing and moves on. You will learn a lot of cool stuff pretty quickly!!

I think Eric Johnson even posted up Rick's cover of Cliffs of Dover on his Twitter or something because he thought it was the best cover he'd ever seen. Pretty amazing player.

I have to agree, I more inclined to listen to someone like Gilmour and get inspired but it was cool to see....thx for posting...

The guy is incredible. It wouldn't be normal day around here if someone didn't have something negative to say about him

Rick graham has killer chops and can play melodically as well. To think he can't is crazy.

For once I disagree. I think he not only had great technique and speed, but he had some pretty melodic playing in with all that speed. I dug it big time. Still though, the one thing I can agree with is that it is all about the songwriting. So many people are better players than Lynch for example, but nobody wrote Wicked Sensation or Tooth and Nail. George did.
