My buddy just bought a used Ultra last week off ebay for $2000. Needless to say he's a bit bummed

That sucks. See if he can buy the new Axe-Fx II with monopoly money. Fake money for fake tones. DOH! ;)

Dude we get it you think the AxeFX sounds fake and all digitally and no better than a POD or Tonelab. I don't see the point in posting this in every thread.

you used to

I still think it doesn't sound exactly like a tube amp cranked and never claimed otherwise. And no I used to make fun of those that claimed it did in every thread.

I think the new version should have a cooler name .

As Nigel Tufnel would say it is one better, right?

I wonder how low the Axe FX Standards will get...

I'm guessing a grand.
If they get down to ~800USD, I will be on board the Axe FX train.

I'm about to order the new DAR FBM-PX preamp/impulse loader at 900, but now I'm wondering if I should hold back and see what happens with all this new Axe FX madness. The DAR preamp would be able to cover most sounds I need, but I am going to be buying an additional effects unit (hence my recent thread), while the Axe FX would be able to get similar tone and have everything else I need built in. Hmm... gear decisions are hard when you're a poor college dude!

I can't wait to see how these Axe FX IIs sound though, and the headphone/USB outputs make them so much more bedroom player friendly. I feel a slight rumble of GAS trickling through me already... where' the Beano?

Comedic gold...... mmmmmmm ok.

So is Fractual still going to offer the Standard and Ultra along with the II? I have read a bunch of threads, but still am not sure. If they are only offering the II, that kind of stinks. I mean there was a crowd looking for a low end product or effects only product and if only the II is available, that's not meeting those needs.

I looked on the Fractual website and they said no Standards or Ultras are in stock, that's it.

If they no longer offer them it will be a win for the people who own the Ultra/Standard because the Axe2 is going to be in huge demand/short supply and out of most peoples reach financially.

The current models sound awesome and will satisfy most people out there,so they will be in good demand on the used market and Cliff says that he will still be adding new amps to them for a while(not that they even need anymore)

Tried that same logic at a strip bar...didn't go over well with the ownership :D

Yes.

It's quite often that Standards and Ultras aren't in stock. My guess is they've shifted production to the new II's and will get a stockpile of them, and then get back to making Standards and Ultras.

why would they make all 3?

the standard and ultra have been discontinued, the only uni fractal will be making is the AxeFx II

My guess is they will only make the Axe II now, and continue to develop Axe III. It's how technology works. Standards and ultra's are history, maybe a few more updates. Sooner or later Cliff will be offered enough money to sell out and he will sell.

To have a lower priced point option for people who don't want to pony up the $2200 for an Axe-Fx II. That's a reason they would make all three.

So I am still not sure are they making all 3 are not? Or do we really not know yet?

Scott Peterson has posted clips at TGP.

Maybe its his playing but to me it sounds...meh. Definitely not twice as good!...and I like how he points out that his recording doesnt capture the dynamics....ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahah

There are MUCH better clips around of guys playing Standards

Link? I don't feel like looking for it. :D

Scott says

"I said it sounds like a different beast; it builds on the strengths of the Standard/Ultra and delivers on new algorithms and new horsepower and twice the resolution of IR and in-the-room cab blocks. The sweet spots are wider. It has more of everything that that Standard and Ultra delivered in spades. It's just fun and inspiring to play through. "

I guess the old Axe FX was just okay to play through but the II is fun and inspiring both!!

Another quote

"The Axe-FX II takes all the strengths of the Standard/Ultra platform and goes steps further in every regard. Tone, feel, responsiveness."

Now I understand why guys say the next update/version will be even more realer. If the Ultra already has the tone, feel and responsiveness of a tube amp, then the II has taken on a new life. I need to get one to see what must feel now even better than a tube amp.
