Introducing The Axe-Fx™ II.....

I updated to the firmware 11 last night and i must say the power amp modeling they added rom the axe 2 was a huge improvement. The feel and sound of the unit were much improved and that was just a small portion of the new algorithms. It was the main factor for me deciding i would get the axe 2 immediately.

Scott Peterson has posted clips at TGP.

Maybe its his playing but to me it sounds...meh. Definitely not twice as good!...and I like how he points out that his recording doesnt capture the dynamics....ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahah

There are MUCH better clips around of guys playing Standards

Link? I don't feel like looking for it. :D

All the horsepower in the world means nothing if there's a donkey at the wheel.

"The Axe-FX II takes all the strengths of the Standard/Ultra platform and goes steps further in every regard. Tone, feel, responsiveness."

What about the realnessness? I mean, that's the most important factor? Does it sound more real than the tube amps?

Scott dials his gain tones in too dark for my tastes but that may be what he likes. I've personally got better tones at least for me with my Standard but I heard some things in his clip in the dynamics and lower mids that I don't get with mine. After I get the 2 I'll try and do some clips comparing the two.... gotta learn some new recognizable riffs since all I play is tired old riffs from our songs when I was in my brother's band. :aww: :D

All that said I have my doubts that it there is huge difference between the two but I could be wrong.... I guess I'll find out once I get the 2.

    Very true! I'm sure some would think my clips would sound like ass. :D

One thing that strikes me as odd is that people still want an exact copy of the amps used as the tonal base when Cliff admitted himself the whole point wasn't to emulate the examples he used, but to get the basis from there and tweak it (there's bass correction in some models, for instance) so that you could have an "expanded virtually modd'ed amp" of sorts.

I just care about tonal quality, and it delivers in spades. I'm also overjoyed at the whole fanbase selling their units for cheap, as this means I get backups for my Ultra for cheap. Win / win in my book: people get the ultra-new hippest tech, and I get a reliable backup for a very reliable unit that makes sure I have a portable rig wherever I play in the world (no, carrying Diezels and Soldanos all over the place isn't really my thing :P ).

So is Fractual still going to offer the Standard and Ultra along with the II? I have read a bunch of threads, but still am not sure. If they are only offering the II, that kind of stinks. I mean there was a crowd looking for a low end product or effects only product and if only the II is available, that's not meeting those needs.

I looked on the Fractual website and they said no Standards or Ultras are in stock, that's it.
Yes.

It's quite often that Standards and Ultras aren't in stock. My guess is they've shifted production to the new II's and will get a stockpile of them, and then get back to making Standards and Ultras.

V.

why would they make all 3?
Meeting different price levels and capacities of the varied purchasers. I am not 100% positive on this, but there was mention on the Forum by Peterson (ick!!) and Cliff and his lads that continuing support to the Standard and Ultra was a given. Does this mean more units made? Not sure. I'm not sure about any goddamn thing said or written over there - it's as though we all have to determine the implications of the hidden contexts.

I really do think they're a bunch of weidoes over there.

I don't think they are going to continue with the standard and ultra. From what guys are saying on the fractal forum, people that were on the G66 waiting list for a standard and ultra, were moved to the waiting list for the axe II. That would kind of imply they aren't making the old models anymore.

Does Peterson just seem to be a broken record? Although he may chose different words for description, isn't after every update essentially the same review? Could he not even be a real person?

Anything (Axe related) Peterson says is equivilent to a pre-recorded message. You could cut and paste all his comments about the previous unit almost vertabim to the new one.

Friedman modded Marshall....

That clip sounds very cool IMO.
I have never heard or played a F-modded Marshall though, so I just take it was it is: a nice riffage with a hotrodded marshallesque sound.

So what if you were in line for a Standard, and what, now you're expected to cough up an extra $700...??

Just wondering.

PS - f*ck this shit, I gots me a Hagen coming :D

. . . with Hagen's switchable loop the AF2 makes a nice add on for some more sounds, V. :D

yeah, that's actually what the guy was complaining about. Kind of a catch 22 for him, happy to be in line for an Axe II, but wasn't planning on the extra loot.

Assumed to be Cliff testing a Jose Mod model on the AF2... but nobody knows for sure.

I'm apparently the only person who doesn't know who Scott Peterson is, so I'll ask a stupid question: just who is this guy, and how is it that everyone hates him so much? What's he done to people to bring on such ire?

Not intentionally trying to get any flaming going; I'm honestly just curious (and apparently very naiive   )...
