Ya, it is the ultimate tool, I have to admit it. But I can't ethically support a network of assholes. Now, if Cliff and Tom want to talk shop about the forum's complete and utter bizarre drone bee hive mentality, maybe I'll reconsider. But otherwise, what a bunch of pompous ponces. It's a shame cuz Cliff has been cool with me, as has Tom King. Scott OTOH, well, maybe he needs to get some play, and I don't mean with a guitar. WAY too serious for my tastes... ANYWAY.

I oughta copy and paste some PMs I've received from other members over there - they're actually SCARED to say the things they tell me. They're fearful they'll get lambasted or - god forbid - banned from the forum. I'm sorry but that IS Gestapo mentality... I'm with you; love the Axe, but won't frequent the forum.

FWIW, I've hung out with both Tom and Cliff a two or three times, and they've been great. As a matter of fact, their patience running me through the demo rig at the LA amp show in 08 is what got me to buy in the first place.

After hearing Scott Peterson's playing on the Axe-Fx II I wonder why they choose him to test their product?

I would guess a few reasons:

- His relentless one sided loyalty to the product has made him Fractal's #1 Axe-Fx spokesman/fanboi by proxy. He likes to hide behind the fact that he doesn't work for Fractal, but so what if he isn't a paid spokesman he isn't fooling anyone.

- He controls a main conduit of access to an 80,000+ membership forum in which to promote and market Axe-Fx products. Free marketing and access to potential sales. He actively uses the forum to promote the product and censors out some or all of the negative.

My guess is he was allowed to be a beta tester as a form of kickback regardless of his playing skills.

Probably why he was also given mod status on the Fractal forum...

IF Cliff was to thank one guy for really putting up the clips and stretching the boundries instead of just playing presets through shit ss monitors it is Degenaro period. Been reading these threads now for years and other than cheerleading SP has done nothing to move product to guys that are in the know.

Fact is out there on the internet, nobody that has followed this through-out the years can deny it. If Mentoneman or Ed had that beta test chair we wold be reading things different, they tell no lies.

Both sound great through any piece of gear I've ever heard them play through imo.

Peterson will unabashedly praise the AF2. It could sound like dog shit and Perterson will say it's the greatest thing since the AxeFX Ultra. Of course Cliff wants to make him happy. Who wouldn't?

What I'd like to know is does Cliff really trust his judgment? Do they talk honestly about things or is the bias present? Or does he prefer the bias? I don't think he'd have gotten the AxeFX where it is today if he'd only listened to fan boy criticism (or non-criticism).

I have talked with Ed many times about his thoughts on it ... the thing he said that was really great about it is the consistency of sound in different environments. We all know how if you play one place the sound can be great .... at a other sucks. He said it was for him much more constant than any other method. He also said he never really tries to make it sound like a particular amp. He just tries to make it sound good for what he is doing.

Ed as long as I have known him very much calls it as he sees it .... I very much respect him for that.

Noise using the 4cm is pretty much my only complaint about the Axe.

I think this is mostly a product of the FX loop used. In the limited time I had a Standard (yes, I returned it during the 15 day trial period once I heard the II was coming out), I didn't have any worrying noise issues running 4CM with my Guytron. Yeah, there was some hiss, but no more than I usually get on the B channel plugged straight in.

That said, I'm more looking forward to the built in impedance matching and auto-leveling on the inputs and outputs. I love that you can set the output knobs to 100% and it passes through exactly what you put in. This should make it WAY easier to run 4CM.

So is Fractual still going to offer the Standard and Ultra along with the II? I have read a bunch of threads, but still am not sure. If they are only offering the II, that kind of stinks. I mean there was a crowd looking for a low end product or effects only product and if only the II is available, that's not meeting those needs.

I looked on the Fractual website and they said no Standards or Ultras are in stock, that's it.

If anything the Ultra will be discontinued. Nobody is going to pay $1999 new when they can get double the power for $200 more. And given the higher proportion of Ultra to Standard sales, my guess is that Cliff will devote the majority of his resources to the II.

Now, it was mentioned last year that they're working on a floor unit based on the regular Analog Devices SHARC processor (at least the newer, higher-end non-TigerSHARC model). Maybe that will fill the price gap left by a discontinued Standard and compete with the 11R?

It's quite often that Standards and Ultras aren't in stock. My guess is they've shifted production to the new II's and will get a stockpile of them, and then get back to making Standards and Ultras.

Based on a post Cliff made after the announcement, it sounds like the first order will be "large" and the second will be "even larger" based on how successful the release is. And really, who are we kidding? Just look at all the Ultras that flooded eBay Sunday night. The real question is what Cliff thinks is "large". 50 units? 100? I doubt a 1000.
