Second, I see events as one mission accomplishing multiple goals.

• Preventing Iran from building an arsenal and/or acquiring nuclear capabilities.
• Disrupting Trade between China & Iran/ME
• Weaken China's economy.
• Strengthen the petrodollar
• Make the US the major player in the global oil trade (take Venezuela into account as well)
• Strengthen & expand the US economy.

I'm not going to go into explaining all of it as I don't feel like writing a novel. Just think about how events so far affect the above points. One mission; multiple goals with the final outcome of making America's security & economy stronger. Which goals take higher priority is up for debate, but it's hard to deny that everything is intertwined.

It's not like I'm sitting in the briefing rooms, so I'm not going to pretend I know exactly what the core reasonings and goals are. I'm just saying that when you everything into account, it makes enough sense to be valid.
