Is the Super Pot worth the time and trouble?

Bourns are decent chinese made pots for the musician on a budget... Their loose tolerance make for easy articulation.

I'm on no budget. I could throw a $45 pot in my guitar.

And what the hell does "Their loose tolerance make for easy articulation." even mean?

It means that the knob is easy to turn.

Most pots have up toa 20% tolerance. The only difference between the super pots and a generic cts pot is that only the onces that test within a specific range are markedted as super pots. I seen the generics range from 400k to 580k. I just take my multimeter into the local guitar store and they have a bin of them for $5 each. I just pick mine to be as close to 500k as possible. The whole taper thing is perception. The taper of a 400k pot will feel different than a 525k pot. These are not special pots, but rather specially screened pots

The taper is 100% different between an RS Super Pot of value X and a generic CTS pot of the same value X.

Not the case this has been dubunked at nausium on other forums. They are nothing more than well screened CTS pots. The taper may feel different if to another "generic" CTS of the same value because of the tolerance. 2 500k pots could have a variance of over 100k between them, thus it is totally uderstandable that the taper would feel different. But in essence, you can screen you own pots for the vvalue you want and its going to be no different that an RS pot. See the graph. The RS and CTS has the same taper

Interesting. Had never heard/seen that. Guess I was wrong. :) If that's the case, shame on RS for claiming that:

The RS Guitarworks SuperPots™ are manufactured by CTS specifically for RS Guitarworks. We designed the potentiometers to our specs, which exceed those of the CTS pots that are and have been the industry standard for over 40 years with Gibson®, Fender® etc. The RS Guitarworks SuperPot™ is made with tolerances that are twice as tight as the normal CTS 500k pots used in even the most expensive Les Pauls® etc. We also had the cheap aluminum shaft replaced with brass for more durability. We chose CTS’s old-school heavy carbon resistance path instead of the inferior silk-screening currently used by many other makers. And perhaps most important, we custom designed the taper specifically for the volume position of electric guitar. Our custom taper gives smooth even response throughout the range of motion

How could they possibly make these claims if they are untrue? Has anybody confronted them about this?

Slight deviation from the topic, but for anybody who's looking for an extremely fast and easy to turn pot, look into the new Seymour Duncan Bourns YJM pots. I bought about 10 of them, and they're all amazing if you prefer the ridiculously easy to turn pots. I put a DMM on them, and despite Bourns claiming they have a +/- 20% tolerance, they were all less than 8% except for one, which was like 11%.
