I had a notion to go to the local Guitar Center, step over the tumbleweeds and press on through the cobwebs, to check out their Strats. They have 48 months same as cash going on right now and apparently a 30% off sale on a bunch of guitars. I looked on my phone and considered it, then remembered I had this old Squier Strat that needed some love and I figured why not, just throw my Mojotone premade wiring harness on it I've had for like 2 years and throw in my used Jalen Crossroads I bought probably 4 years ago....Al Estrada's playing may have had something to do with me buying them from a guy on TGP. Plus, it'd cost me much much less.
I tore this thing apart, got the crappy Indonesian electronics out of it, reamed out the holes on the pickguard and popped in the Mojotone pots/switch combo. I'm hoping my old knobs that are just as yellowed and antiqued as the pickguard fit the new pots
I'm gonna order some new screws to hold the pickguard down, some new string trees too. I've got toothpicks and woodglue drying now so I can install some spare Schaller Strap Locks I had in my parts toolbox. Schallers are the best strap locks, fight me. I'm probably going to order a Super Vee Bladerunner bridge to pop in as it has the old 6 screw bridge. I've definitely gotta do a fretjob. The ends don't feel bad and they're not flattened, even on the lower frets, and there are no divots. Unfortunately, up around the 17th fret on the B string I think, there is some note dying action during bends. Hopefully there aren't too many high spots and it doesn't take me too long to get them all flat so I can recrown them and polish them. I'm even going to put in some fall away so I can really shred all the way up to fret 21.
Wish me luck in my endeavor and that I don't need to break out the super glue to wick down into the wood to keep a fret in place. All I have is a brass hammer...no press.
