After owning my Charvel for a year now,my opinion of it is "ok" I play it the most, but the neck keeps going out of adjustment,so I set it up and a week later it's off again.
So now I just think they're ok.
A word of advice to you from one dad to another. My oldest needs braces right now and there's a chance yours will too someday. Hold on to that Anderson because you will get a sweet trade in when the time comes with the orthodontist.
I am hanging on to my Andys but I just had my 3 oldest kids in to the orthodontist. After insurance covers 50% it will cost me about $7k for braces. Only one of them truly needs them but it seems like if you don't get them these days you are putting your children at a disadvantage. Every kid seems to have the perfect smile these days.
And also, it's just gear and it's really low down on the totem poll for me as far as a need is concerned. If i need some dough i really don't feel bad about selling an expensive piece of gear. Nobody is paying me to play their guitar so that's another thing.
I dunno man - I own several Custom Shops and I've also played a ton of the Pro Mods and some of them were within a nats ass of my Custom Shops in terms of playability. I've played a few Custom Shops that weren't as good as some Pro Mods playing-wise. I would not dismiss the $900 buck guitars - IMO Custom Shops (as well as Pro Mods) are somewhat inconsistent from guitar to guitar. What the Custom Shops really have are better fit and finish, cool graphics, cool figured woods, etc... As far as playability and sound goes a good Custom Shop and a good Pro Mod aren't that different to me. It's really whether you wanna pay a premium for the "pretties" to me (and I do...)
Tom Anderson, John Suhr, that crazy German guy who makes Bogners, Peter Diezel. These guys look like they really love what they do. Were lucky to have soo much crazy good gear to choose from. I remember the days when everyone's rig was top secret and there was little to choose from.
And you know what? If a 99 dollar Hello Kitty strat is the best guitar for you than who cares as long as it works. YES, I'm buying one of those for my daughter in a year or 2.
I'd love to have my own last name on the headstock of my guitars but unless I change my last name to Charvel it's not going to happen. This Anderson plays Charvels.
