I've bought a Quad

The H/K? They can be run in triode/pentode mode and have two different NFB setting (brit, amer.). More "sweet" sounding, not as straight as a VHT I'd say. Internal voltages are on the high side, so its not like a Class A Vox^2 poweramp, more like the Peavey Classics.
I will add some "depth" circuitry asap of course :D

LOL

No idea, I just know the studio pre, which was very nice (even direct recorded). Sick Michael had awesome clips some years ago . . .

You deleted one post over at Metro, I saw that Dave - just put it - in or do you need help with the true bypass?

:D

You know how I feel about this purchase. You will get some really cool fendery cleans and some mean, metal distortion. It prefers 75s to v30s as well IMO. If you have problems dialing it in, give me shout, it can be tricky and theres lots of variation.

Great preamp!

Deleted a post? I dont know if I should use the true bypass now...
I was under the impression that one of your posts went into bits nirvana - I could be wrong though. It seems that many many picky Metro-Marshall guys do like Larry's loop, so give it a try

Mine sounded pretty good through my old 30th anniversay, but using it with the old boogie simul power amps probably brings the best out of it. I think mine was a little fuller through the boogie but the marshall gave it a nice el34 glory snarl!

Did you use the direct out to record?
I don't want to move this thing around (just sold my Herbert cause it is too heavy weighted for me), but for late night wanking . . . .

yeah, you can fire it direct through some stereo speakers/amplifier. Dont think id use it to record, it sounds ok, but it really sounds much better mic-ed. It generally sounds really good at low volumes any way. Theres loads of gain on tap, and I havent used any pedals with it until recently.

but then I used a bad monkey with it for leads, and I can totally see why Ralph and Kage kick it into "robo-gain" mode. It gives you infinite sustain and the harmonics jut fly out. The tone gets thicker too.

Cool. Thanks for sharing the info Mike.
Is the Marshall still well?

Marshall is still very good, and records better and more easily than the boogie to be honest (or any other amp out there probably). It needs a gibson going into it - you can see where my thoughts are headed right now.
Bon courage - je me couche! I look forward to clips!!

I know a Soldano SP77 for sale, that would go really nice with the Quad

So far I love Rythm 1 (very nice clean), Rythm 2 (meaty) and Lead 2 (extra meaty) - just Lead 1 sounds like shit, like the typical Boogie :D
So much to tweak . . .

Another update (as if anybody except me cares - LOL)

Got my poweramp today, biased 8 EL84s (a real pain), had to replace two of them and wired a rack with the pre, pwr and one of my Rocktrons. The levels from the quad loop are "funny", full serial (out into fx into pwr) is crappy, so I have to install a mixer for the fx.

Its pretty huge sounding, the crunch (rythm 2) isn't really my jar of whiskey yet, but lets tweak until eternity :D

I'll use my BT for crunch - I guess thats better. Which means I ned to add a splitter and a looper. Man, I feel like 20 years ago

The poweramp isn't that bad for the money, although I wish I had got the VHT instead - ahhhh - I will install some depth mods and we'll see further.
:)

personal lightshow :D

I have to look if I can find some purple LEDs and install them into the 4d

YEs you definately need purple LED"s. Make sure they are bright like laserbeams though, you know along the same line of the blue ones Peter uses. ;) :D

Thanks Dave. I had a Boogie 22 many many many years ago - this sounds cooler, the clean is nicer, the lead has much more gain (lead2). I don't think I'd carry this stuff to gigs, but for wanking around at home at low levels its really nice. Just a "real good" crunch is missing yet - I'll give Sick Michael a call and will ask him for settings - this monster is a pain to tweak, but anybody knew that already. :D

Will do - and every Boogie purist wants to kill me then, damn blasphemy :D
