I've given up on Fender single coils with distortion.

Seriously, try the Dimarzio Area's. Awesome strat tones with no hum.

Great rig and fantastic playing!!

I can get some pretty brutal tones with my single coils, they are Lindy Fralins. There is noise but it doesn't bother me when I'm thrashing away...

+1

Reza's got it going on!! Mondo steez...

Peace,
V.

If you can't find a single coil that works for you in the bridge, try lifting the pick guard, it might be routed for a humbucker as well.

Sounds real good Reza.

Try using the bridge and middle pups together and turning the volume down to around 9.

Also, unlike most 'bucker equiped axes where you turn the tone knob to 10 and leave it, when dealing with singlecoils the tone knobs on your strat are your friend.

Bear in mind that when singlecoils where invented there was no such thing as "high gain" so they're really not designed for that but there are plenty since then that are better equiped to handle hard rock or metal, but they still wouldn't be my first choice for that kinda music. Best of luck!

Good point - I hadn't thought of that. Thanks

Your MIM Cray strat is routed S/S/S. Don't bother with all the trouble. If I were you, I would throw a Dimarzio Super Distortion S or Chopper in there. I really like both of those better than the Duncan Hot Rails.

Just my two cents...

My main guitar for the last 12 years has been a mij blackmore strat with duncan
quarter pounders.

I run it through either my boogie rack or bogner rack and have no issues with
the single coil pickups with respect to high gain.

Now, the noise on the other hand... I guess it just comes with the territory but
I love the sound of single coils and high gain.

If the singlecoil buzz/hum is a problem, then get yourself the Suhr Silent Singlecoil Backplate. That way you can use true Singlecoils without any buzz/hum at all :)

+1 amazing unit

I dont mind the noise, love the pushed sc tone but I have to work a lot harder to get good results. Way harder than today's high output pups.

I use the Dimarzio Areas as well. The Gilbert Injectors are based off of the Areas, since he was using the Areas prior to having the Injectors made for him. There are plenty of other great sounding, noiseless single coils. Fender even makes some. I even have a great set of 50's style custom shop Fenders in one of my guitars. They are vintage sounding with zero noise. I prefer the Dimarzio Areas that I use because they are dialed in for a different tone that I prefer. The Fenders that I have are specifically for a '50s style tone and the lead pickup is quite bright and pretty thin...not nearly as beefy as the Areas, but it isn't supposed to be. Fender has other models that are more comparable.
