Jacob sat in for a few tunes at The Whiskey in LA with Jimmy Burkard Saturday night. Jimmy had both of his MGL100 heads, so Jacob played thru one and really liked it. He may end up doing some demo vids for us.

Great time jamming and talking music and gear. Here’s an awesome guy.

It looks like all we really need is a Marshall SV20 to get there? :dunno:

Don't forget the power outlet box that's secretly a distortion pedal (most likely a Distortion+ because reasons) to go with his cascading gain mod that probably didn't exist when the album was recorded

Good interview. Love to see a young person today embrace the older school music. No fucking bucket shtick, no 19 string guitar, no loss of mid range etc… he sounds young and energetic. I see and hear a well spoken Axl, Nuno, Eddie, and at the same time he doesn’t appear to be high or drunk. He gets off on the music. Good for him. I, personally, at that age would have come across like Sebastian Bach; a short lived funny dickhead… then cancelled. This guy gives our world hope. The best thing he said was “tube amp for live”. Bam! Crank that shit up

What the world doesn't know was that Guitar World had that SV20 secretly Jose modded right before the interview. It has nothing to do with the fact that Jacob Deraps plays like a MOFO as well as the swing and feel.

It's the secretly jose modded cascading gain SV20 that is clearly visible in the same 4 pictures of 5150 studio and the Japan tour that RTers have posted 27 times a day, every day for the last 20 years

It definitely doesn't have anything to do with his chops and that he's actually taken the time to learn how to play the fucking guitar

I finally got around to watch the interview and Jacob is very well spoken and described the things that make music move people and the way he experiences influential pivotal music as was VH1, Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhodes etc:.

He shows you don't need a $7,000 Diezel Herbert or a Larry( not that there's anything wrong with that if that's what you like):p:LOL: to sound great and evoke emotion through guitar playing. I guess he does prove in alot of ways, it's the hands statement.....................

It was a good interview, that's for posting that!:2thumbsup:

That is always my thought when someone says "The amp is too loose" etc. Is it tho, or is your playing too loose and you are blaming the amp? I have played boomy amps, but hand position and adjusted picking can tighten up almost anything.

My wife has said "Why do you do that?" to people who ask to play my rig. The problem...? I always let them step right up and play.

I think they think being plugged straight into an unforgiving amp with a full EQ spectrum is going to do them favors - it seldom does.

The amp sounded great when I was playing it...what changed?

I normally get the guitar back within a few minutes unless it's a really solid player - then they have a blast.

Interesting interview. Good vibe and excitement, but 99% of the stuff he plays in the interview are covers. I checked out his original stuff and it is a yawn fest- skip to the solo section. Vocals are way dated and repel me like Dokken. He plays with fire but also sounds just a bit sloppy. Cool that someone his age likes the 80s, but that and his VH love seem to be only attraction.

Reminds me of the kid in your neighborhood that plays nothing but covers, which- no matter how good you are at it- mean nothing to those of us who write/play original music. Deraps' original music sound like someone who spent most of their time copying and not enough time developing originality.

Him and 10,000 other YouTubers doing and sounding the same.

Yup, that's the problem. At some point you have to let the influences go and just play. Eventually, you're "own" style develops.
As much as I absorbed the Jimi and Trower stuff, you gotta move on.
