Good News if you don't like him : dig a little deeper into the past, he isn't on any of their good stuff anyways. I have seen them live a couple times with the 3 guitar lineup, instead of someone playing rhythm guitar when they are playing harmonies...they all three play them. Doesn't really bring anything to the arrangements imo. That said, he doesn't really bother me any.

COUNTERPOINT:

Iron Maiden is one of my favourite bands and while I may get hate, I adore Janick's playing.! It's smooth and melodic and his solo's on the Brave New World album are outstanding. Modern Iron Maiden is better than it ever was in the 80's and Janick is one of the reasons. They're a great live band. Their shows are a spectacle. The albums are great and they have fun. They blow away most modern bands.

Sorry, can't agree with this...and I don't think much of the Maiden fanbase does either....at least as far as new music vs their classic stuff, or even in the performance department.

No doubt.

hmmmm...... ok
I still love to see them live, I just ignore Janick ;)
Have seen them on 11 occasions, all the way back to Number of the Beast, I respectfully disagree

I'll get even more fanboy and say I didn't care for much past Clive Burr. Never liked Nico's drumming that much. Piece of Mind does have killer songs though and Aces High is badass.

Yeah......thats the stuff!!
Thanks for posting. I havent heard that type of 'old school' metal in a LONG TIME!!
Made me realize why I am here today as a guitarist.

Have to agree he just takes up space, saw them a couple years back and at the end of the show he started doing a solo everybody stopped playing but him and there was ZERO stage and main volume from him,, funny as hell.

The real question is: How the heck did he get the gig?

He replaced Adrian. Then Adrian came back and they didn't have the heart to tell Janick to hit the bricks.

Adrian was in Bruce's solo band, on the CD Accident of Birth. Awesome tunes here as well.

Yea, I know they had to replace Adrian when he left. But why did they pick Gers? That's what I don't get. There had to be plenty of guitar slingers who would have taken the gig.

This short clip of Janick is awesome. Bruce Dickinson's expression at 0:30 is priceless...

I would guess because he already knew Bruce, having played on Tattooed Millionaire.

Last time I saw Maiden he was getting on my nerves. Kinda ruined it a little for me. That was a long time ago. It was Maiden, Rob Halford and Static X.

I don't get why he plays some of Adrian's solos when Adrian himself is back in the band  Especially since Adrian is a much better player.
and that is my only real problem with him being in the band.... Smith is the MAN.

I don't really have a problem with his playing, but watching him act like an idiot while the other guys are ultra cool really pisses me off.

jannick joined in 1990, it's a little late too bitch now. unclench and enjoy some good music.

3 Guitars Just doesn't work in maiden for me... It's too crowded musically.

Adrian, and Dave played off each other perfectly... Harmonys were Insane!

Don't forget they have a very Active and flamoyant Bass Player that also plays a kind of Bass Leads, In Steve Harris...

They were a Driving Rythmic, Dynamic band...

And now with too many things in the mix they just lost something...

One of my all time favorites for sure.

Roid
