I would like to try the Ultex Jazz III, but I will have to mail order some. I do have an Ultex Sharp, maybe I should play with it to get an idea....
That's what I did. i used the Ultex sharp for a few months before switching to ultex Jazz.
The material is the same. However, i do find the Jazz feels stiffer, due to its smaller size. By that i mean a 1.38mm Jazz feels stiff like a 1.4 or 2mm Ultex sharp.

I have tried them all(Petrucci, Red Bear, EJ, Black, Red, Ultex, etc.)...for me the Tortex Pitch Black Jazz III 1.14 is the one. Has the Gilbert swoosh :-)

I couldn't believe how my playing transformed when I switched to the red JazzIIIs in '09 or so. It's like I advanced to a point where I hit a wall with the bigger Tortex picks and when I switched I was finally able to progress. They allow me to play much more precisely and controlled. I've played almost all the variations and still love the red IIIs or the Dava. Been meaning to try the Petrucci picks.

I like the Dava delrin picks. They are very similar in size and shape to the Jazz IIIs but I prefer the grip on the Dava picks.

cool, I've seen them around. have to give it a try. Are the materials (delrin) a lot different than the Jazz III?

I use the Dava's and Tortex Jazz III's. The Dava's are awesome! My only gripe is that I rip right through them. They don't hold up well at all. I can use the carpet trick on a Tortex and use it forever. The Dava's don't respond well to that trick.

dava Jazz is perfect. right size and shape, just the right amount of flex, and really grippy

Red Bear little jazzer, Jazz III's work well for me. Great size for accuracy and don't alter tone much if any.

I tried them and ended up giving them away, they were too small and too thick for my tastes. My buddy loves them.

The Jazz Max Grip Carbon is a very cool little fella. I wasnt a fan of smaller picks but when I tried this I was amazed. It feels like you are not holding a pick but whatever you want to do with your picking hand actually happens instantly and you reach the strings somehow faster compared to larger picks. Thats how it feels at least. Hence I prefer these picks for mainly lead and solo work. They do make a difference in my opinion and feel faster for sure. For rhythms they feel good too but it feels like you end up missing a bit of the punch. For stuff that require extra precision (like meshuggah's bleed) they could be very cool. I also think these were the picks that did color the tone least among the picks I tried. Other than that, they have tiny zigzag line figured textures for extra grip. I dont feel like I need extra grip but they dont bother me nor they hurt my fingers as it was claimed by some people.

They are all very durable and the carbon fiber one seems to be the most durable.

I hope this helps but at the end of the day picks are picks :P hehehe
This is how I feel about the Jazz III Ultex right now. It has an instant response from hand to string, much faster than the other I tried, which are Dunlop JP, red Jazz III, and Jazz Stubby.
Now I'm going to try the others, but as it stands at the moment, the Jazz Ultex is the clear win for me personally.
